    LADIES ONLY PLEASE!

Again, it is because of oestrogen being released from fat cells, as well as other hormonal changes. It can happen even with the pre surgery diet. Or at different times in life if you have a sudden diet change that causes fat cells to start shrinking. Our bodies are such amazing things that we still just don't know enough about

a 30-40 lb weight loss the first month is the exception with "normal" WLS people. That's more common among people on shows like "My 600 lb Life", who start at way higher BMIs than most of us do.. I've been hanging out on this and other bariatric surgery boards for at least five years, and I would say the average loss for the first month is in the 15-25 lb range. I lost 16 lbs the first month, and I started out at over 300 lbs. So I'm not sure where you've been reading that, but even though it happens occasionally with us more "normal" WLS folks, it is definitely the exception.

    LADIES ONLY PLEASE!

I got mine 2 weeks early on the day after surgery and then got it several times over the next couple of months. Cysts and fibroids roared their ugly heads so I wound up getting a hysterectomy a few months after my bypass. Not caused by the bypass but I was feeling so happy otherwise that I didnt want to spend a couple years dealing with lady troubles. And I was done with kid having and probably not too far off from menopause anyway.

    Looking for October Surgery Friends

Wow, the countdown is on! I’m so excited. I just can’t weight to rid myself of this excess weight. I’m still shedding my old favorite foods one at a time. I guess it really started to become “real” when I booked my flights. I’m no longer scared, well not really. Just excited. I had a financial issue that I thought my put the kybosch on my surgery. At least for a while anyway, but that will work itself out. I am flying south, like a bird in migration on 9/30. Off to Tijuana, Bariatric Pal Hospital, Dr. Illan and his wonderful staff. And there, I will receive a wonderful gift, a tool to help me recover that smaller, healthier person trapped inside.

You have done phenomenal. The only way to slow/stop your weight loss is to eat your maintaining food plan (Higher calories and adding more carbs) Switching to maintenance mode is not easy. Time to reassess what you are doing. Work on your head space to transition into maintenance mode. Your health is dependent on changing your diet to support your fitness level. Don’t burn muscle and undo all the work you put in. Many of us had to graze to get out maintenance plan calories or fuel for our fitness level. Your restriction will become less over time. It gets easier. Finding your balance takes time. You can exercise less as you learn to increase your calories. If you choose to be athletic you may want to hire a sports medicine dietitian. You have wiggle room to work your way into maintaining. 5’3” your healthy BMI zone is 105lbs to 141lbs. Choose a weight that you feel healthy at to maintain. Now when I see MO people...

Something to look forward to... I was looking at my online medical record though my medical system where it lists my medical issues and obese was one of them. I clicked on it and emailed them back that my BMI was 28 and they took it off.

I really hate seeing morbidly obese on my medical records, it just hurts me. When my GP recommended me to the Bariatric program last September, I cried and felt shame. However, I was crying out for help and my GP knew I had health issues due to my excess weight. I'm tall and my weight is pretty evenly proportioned, so ppl didnt know that I was 280. I cried uncontrollably and I have been on this journey since last September 17th, 2018. I'm 249 pounds now and having surgery (vsg) in January 2020, I get my date tomorrow. The Dr. wanted to perform the surgery in October or November, but I have to wait until January to assure I have enough paid time off on the books...I'm going to be working on my fitness routine and mental health, while I'm waiting. It will be here before I know it, time is going quickly.

    Exercise

Start working out as soon as you can! But wait 1-2 months for heavy weights. This surgery gives us a chance to turn around our previous bad decisions around food and exercise. An extra tool. But that is all - we have to drive our new habits and the sooner you start, the more likely that will be ‘bedded in’ when you get to your maintenance phase. You might have some plateau as you build muscle, because size-for-size it is heavier than fat. But muscle tissue is way better for you - makes you stronger/healthier, it also burns more calories even at rest, so over time building a bit of muscle is great for keeping off the weight. I have never exercised, played sport. Now I run 3x a week, gym 4x a week and I really genuinely like it! And I REALLY like seeing (lady) muscles on my arms and legs! Makes me so proud, reminds me I have WORKED at this, not just taken the easy option.

My weight continues to drop after I started working out. The weight gain could be muscles which in turn will lead to more weight loss and a leaner look.
