6 years out and weight gain

It’s been six years since I have my surgery. Lost over 100+lbs. However in the past few years, it’s slowly regaining - approx 70lbs up atm. Most because I went vegan for two years and regained a ton because I ate quinoa mostly (carb galore) ughhh...mad at myself for that. I’m a lacto-ovo vegetarian now and looking for some help. Can anyone suggest any tips on how I can jump start my weight loss again? I’m thinking about doing the 5 day pouch test to start.

My surgeon said no soda ever. In some paperwork it says no nuts or nut butters for a year post RYN or before with caution. I see a lot of others here have peanut butter. I can have a 1/4 cup of nuts over the course of an hour and feel ok. Any specific food your MD said to avoid long term?

    Everything is Nauseating

I think I’m around 14 weeks out, a few sips of water and I get that taste in my mouth that I’m about to be sick. I’ve had a lot of trouble with drinking water post op. I did start having some difficulty prior to surgery with nausea and swallowing. But afterward I barely drink. I get nauseous no matter what I drink, I’m still on liquids with some soft foods every so often like BariatricPal soup with pasta since it’s easy to chew and get down. Still the nausea though. I drink a protein shake in the morning to get 30 grams protein. I take it slow and push past the incessant nausea. I don’t know that I can offer advice but shortly after I got out of hospital I started having intermittent fevers and went to the ER. Turned out to be aspiration pneumonia and that I have some form of dysphasia. All they know is it could be neurological. Which has nothing to do with my surgery (but my chronic illnesses) but there are other forms of dysphasia, or a stoma stricture that might make things difficult. I wouldn’t jump there just yet but do tell your doctor everything so he can order tests if necessary. And don’t hesitate to ask for anti nausea medication, they come in sublingual form. I do have to ask, what form is your medication? I was told no pills for a few months and even then they need to be small pills and not slow release. I was advised to crush the pills or take medication in liquid form (which is hard to get in certain medications) but definitely no pills.

I came out of surgery hungry, remained STARVING during the 10 days of liquids and have been hungry ever since. It was NOT head hunger. Yes, I do sometimes get head hunger and I feel like grazing but I was legit hungry. The only thing I can tell you is I'm down 60 pounds and I could never have done that where I was before surgery. You might be hungry but you eat small meals. Yes, that means I have to make more decisions. I never got the blessing of not being hungry but I'm managing.

    Am I a sleeve failure?

Thanks for all the replies, I'm seriously soaking in each bit of good advice. I realize I'm lower BMI (and senior age) and so my loss may be slower. I'm coming to think I may be eating too much. It's been easy for me to ingest 4-5 oz because I've had NO issues with drinking or eating. Never felt nauseous, or gotten a belly ache, cramp, nothing. Feel little to no restriction. And so I've basically been acting like I'm on a strict diet by restricting my input and calories seeming without aide from my 'tool'. Should I be measuring ounces/weight or volume as in 1/2 cup? How much volume would you suggest for near 2 months out? I do protein first, been mostly only eating protein. I've been on my treadmill at 'brisk walk' speed for a few minutes multiple times a day (being a senior with heart disease I feel that's my limit). I also just try to dance around and get sweaty housecleaning and generally be more active than usual. My concern is that I'm not losing during this 'honeymoon' stage and I don't want to be stalled at the same weight for another minute (it's going on three weeks!). I've been averaging 600-800 calories a day, is that too much this early? Also I get in 60+ gram protein & low carb. Thanks again for all the thoughtful replies. I plan to measure lower amounts today, I'm thinking 1/2 cup of chicken or salmon per meal? I've always been a big water drinker but will try to get even more in today. Gonna buy some sugar free ice pops for a late night snack (which is when I often have a bit more chicken).

    Lowest Weight since 2004

So this morning I stepped on the scale and saw 179.8. I haven't seen such a low number in 15 years! Of course, I keep thinking 2004 was just 5 or 6 years ago so there was a double WHAAATTTT?? moment for me. I'm over the moon! Had RNY on November 28, 2018 and have lost 96 pounds so far. I truly can't believe it. It's a constant journey of mind and body changes. Still struggling with my "FAT" mind but I'm working on it. Here's to finally kicking this weight issue in the nuts!
