As with another poster above, I have a bypass but do not dump. Ever. So, you were counting on something that may or may not happen. You can be very successful with either procedure. The most important factor for success after wls is your brain, not your stomach.

    Conversion to bypass

I am a VSG to RnY revision but not because my VSG failed me, because of GERD. I didn’t hit my weight goal but I lost 47% of my excessive weight and maintained until my revision. I do know I learned a lot between surgery 1 & 2 and my biggest take away is my surgery didn’t fail me but I definitely failed my surgery. Your tool, or whatever you call it, doesn’t decide what you eat or when you eat. It doesn’t choose to drink while eating or to graze. You get out of it what you put into it.

    Weight gain

@Sirena2020 Lack of thirst is actually a sign of dehydration. 20-30oz/day is really only 3-4 cups, not enough. Drink-drink-drink

Told today No Bypass must be sleeve

I was told that I would be getting a bypass unless my surgeon felt it was safer to do the sleeve. Luckily I got the bypass. I wish you luck.

if you end up having to do the sleeve, keep in mind that lots of people have been very successful with it! In both cases, it's really more your level of commitment than the type of surgery.

Find someone else I think he is making excuses he is not confident in the bypass...

Getting Sleeve Done in Two Weeks

heck i really did not follow the pre opt diet except for one day before surgery lol..

The pre-op diet is rough, no denying it. You really need to power through and focus on the long-term goals. Even if you struggle with the liquids, try to pack them down. It helps to calm your hunger. Also, try chewing on sf popsicles or frozen protein drinks. They (at least) make you feel like you're eating. Good luck!

Sad news if you like to drink

I did know a RNY person that turned to alcohol instead of food and it ruined his life - he lost his job, ability to drive and other things. I still think many bariatric programs need to mandate therapy for 6 months prior ad 1 year after because so many people fail to find a coping mechanism to replace food and have a multitude of reasons behind the symptom of using food. There is of course a wide spectrum to disordered eating and many are unwilling to admit or tackle that - oh I just eat too much, etc.

    Weight gain

A nine pound weight gain in two years isn't too bad Now it's time to work it off. Remember it's a lot easier to lose nine pounds than 20. Make it your goal to lose three pounds a week. In less than a month you'll be back to 185. From there you can work off more of you want. How is your restriction after 2years? One piece of advice I get from my nutritionist and doctors is to stay away from the carbs. They slide right through your restriction and you can over eat them. Instead stay with the proteins. i know as time goes by we tend to get back into the bad eating behaviors. Now is the time to reverse your weight gain while it's still manageable.
