Who the heck is this woman?

So... A little back information is required for this story. I’m a hairdresser (36 yrs) but first I’m a wife and mom , a great friend and up until just a few months ago a caregiver for my dad (he passed just recently) I have always been a giving person ( total pushover) NEVER put myself first and have had tremendous stress trying to get my child with autism the help he needs .. all this I ATE over, and ate and ate.. it was ma thang. I was always running around taking care of all and losing track of me along the way.. this past February 4th I had gastric by pass and I am changing so much I can’t believe it.. my self esteem is great and I am becoming the woman I have dreamed about becoming for DECADES.. this to the displeasure of a few folks who I have been there for even at the sacrifice of my own health and well being..well, their pushing back, disgruntled and perplexed as to why I will no longer cater to them and I’ve had some heated debates and tears from those who were used to having me at their beck and call.. the amazing thing is I have no guilt in putting myself first but the peanut gallery has a LOT to say about it... just this week I have been asked " Who is this new woman” it will require such changes to these friendships that it might mean walking away and choosing my self for a change.. I’m really excited and I can’t believe the freedom that comes with releasing that guilt that made me be so self destructive.. I’m not the woman I was months ago... and I’m darn glad!!!

Who the heck is this woman?

And it is Good Thing, I could have written your post but I did it even longer, 44 years with late hubby, still appeasing up until my RNY 9 months ago and like you, some want to me to return to the old Status Quo, well it will never happen, I am now Strong, resilient and under new management-ME and Only ME. Oh I still can be nice to other people but it will be on a More Adult Basis. The family Doormat has permanently retired!

those sugar, protein, and calorie numbers are good. As for carbs - yes - a lot of them are fiber, thus it's only 5g net carbs. So the carb question kind of depends on your program. My plan wasn't an ultra-low carb one - it was kind of a balanced plan - and they would have been fine with that. Not sure about yours, so I'd check with your clinic. Even if they have you on an ultra-low carb plan, they may be OK with you counting net carbs rather than all carbs - but then again, they might not.

if you're at the point you can eat solid foods, then yes. But they have twice the number of calories for the same amount of protein, just so you know... some also have a lot of sugar, so you have to read labels. Plus they're kind of like glorified candy bars for a lot of people - as in very tempting and ripe for abuse - so they can't have them in their house. I always have a few lying around - I've never binged on them - and they're often good for "emergencies". I probably only eat a couple of them a month, though.

It will get better. I dont think I tried tuna till I was a month post-op. eith time you can increase volume. Now I could comfortably eat a tuna packet, although that's my max. You will get there and it will be more enjoyable. good luck!

Willingness to treat you and follow up after out of the country surgery depends on your doctor, and does vary greatly doctor to doctor. You need to consult with your primary care physician to see if they are willing to do this, and if not, find a different primary care physician before your surgery.

I just wanted to say “You are not alone” the post op liquid diet is challenging. Hopefully you will be starting the purée stage soon. I also look at food pictures and videos mostly on Instagram and just like you I wouldn’t eat it if it was in front me. Just the thought of knowing you can’t have something makes you want it. We have come to far to jeopardize our success, good luck on your journey.

I bought and ordered quite a variety, and ended up chucking a lot of it. Premier Protein was my go to post surgery as well... Costco has it by the case... it’s more expensive at London drugs but they carry it in packs if 4 so you could try it before investing in a full case... they also have chocolate... I also found protein water at London Drugs. Turns out I really didn’t like the aftertaste so I’d suggest buying one and trying it before you stock up.
