So I met with the surgeon's office today. Had the first meeting with the dietician, filled out the gigantic pile of paperwork and met with the doctor. Got some super amazing news from the coordinator of the program, which is not only does my insurance pay for the psych eval ($200), but also pays the program fees for the meetings and everything ($600). I was blown away. Then the super awesome amazing news - while my insurance carrier normally requires a documented 6 month dietitian/food class, my particular group does not. So that requirement is waived. On top of all that, when I went to check out and make my psych eval appointment, the nurse said - "Can you do today? Like in 15 minutes? She has an opening and she is right across the street." I said "sure!" and off I went. So in one day, I got my first appointment, first dietitian meeting, most of the paperwork and the psych eval done. Basically, I just have to attend one informational class/workshop/meeting and I am good to go! I feel like I at the wheel of a speeding train! As far as the debate, I had pretty much decided on Sleeve. I didn't like the idea of the bypass and I knew there were more complications with that procedure. But I do have Type 2 Diabetes and the RNY is this particular surgeon's gold standard for bariatric surgery. They said ultimately it is up to me, but now I am not sure. Anyone have any thoughts one way or the other? I am 44 years old, have approximately 150-170 lbs to lose and plan to live at least another 50 years. So for me it's mostly about the long term effects and while I know there is way more data about RNY, I just get skeeved out at the idea of re-routing my guts.

Well, I am officially APPROVED and scheduled for my RNY on June 3rd! For those of you that saw my introduction, I had mentioned that I had a weird insurance deal (small company policy) that made it questionable as to how long of a supervised weight loss was required. It was written as if it was 12 months, and I kind of settled into that in my mind as just how it would be. However, my insurance nurse is awesome. She really stepped up for me and worked so hard to clear the road blocks. Amazing.... So now I have a kind of mental whiplash, but a good one! Feeling excited, nervous and above all else, BLESSED.

I'm just starting full liquids today so I don't have a lot of experience to give but I plan on using protein shakes, cottage cheese, yogurt and possibly trying out protein pudding. I was able to get in about 6 tablespoons of protein shake this morning before I felt really uncomfortable. I think it's gas/period pain but I didn't want to push it. I've had a few sips of water over the last 45 min and the pain seems to be subsiding. My advise would be to stick to easy proteins and try things like chicken in a week or two and see how it goes. It's almost like feeding a baby food for the first time. Doesn't always go well, try again after some time has passed. Good luck! Sent from my LM-Q910 using BariatricPal mobile app

    Vitamins

It took me at least a month after surgery to figure out which vitamins worked for me. I doubt I have enough space or time to provide a comprehensive list. For me, not only was it the type of vitamin but time of day and whether I was taking on an empty stomach. (bad by the way). I settled on Vitafusion gummies. Yes, they have a bit of sugar, but I couldn't tolerate any of the standard bariatric chewables or soft-chews. So, I considered it a trade-off I could live with. I stayed on the Vitafusion gummies until the 2 gigantic bottles I purchased were gone. Then, I changed to standard multivitamins, yes the giant horse pill variety. I take them with my evening meal and haven't had a problem.

My surgeon asked for a 10% loss... 27lbs for me. It wasn't a firm expectation, and when I was struggling, in part due to one of my diabetes meds, they helped me get in to see a specialist to make some changes. Sent from my SM-G960W using BariatricPal mobile app

Learn to shop the 3 Walls. The layout of every American grocery store is stamped out in some factory somewhere. 1. Fruits and Veggies 2. Protein (meats) 3. Dairy Stay out of the center of the store. as an added bonus look at the Nutrition label and if it says ADDED sugar put it back 100% of the time.

@Sullie06 stop kicking yourself (you'll get black & blue!) you are doing everything correctly to get back on track. kudos for realizing you are in trouble - stopping before 10 lbs turns into 20, 30 etc logging everything you eat, counting calories, eating less, exercising, seeking support groups et al you must STOP eating incorrectly - go back to the olden days of smaller portions, less calories etc knowing the problem is half the solution,☺️ congrats on reaching GOAL earlier - i know you will get back their again!! good luck kathy
