I just had my one year post op anniversary. I have lost 83lbs and still need to lose 30 to 40lbs to hit my goal. I feel like I could have done better and I'm comparing myself and I shouldn't but it's so hard not to. Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

Hello, everyone! I wanted to take a minute to introduce myself. I am in the process of getting my list checked off for approval for RNY. I will be having my surgery in Des Moines, Iowa at Mercy Hospital once I get through the process. I have done two NUT vists, a psych eval, met with my surgeon, and done most of my scheduled tests. It is a long story, but I actually don't know if I will need 3 months OR 12 months (!) of supervised diet for insurance approval. (Again, it is a long, curse word inducing story- I will post in insurance issues more about it maybe.) I am 5'8 and weigh about 280 lbs at present. I was always UNDER weight as a kid and until my first child. People actually used to tease me for being too thin. (I feel like I have somehow conquered that particular issue though- probably by eating it. Lol!!!!) After doing the diet -lose it -regain it and more thing for 20 years I guess I was just plain ready to get real about sh*t. Obviously, what I had been doing wasn't working. That notion led me to doing better research than the FBI for the past year or so on weight loss surgery and its options. After much soul searching, nail biting and head scratching I made the decision that the only worse things I could do was: 1. do nothing at all and 2. ignore the problem. So here I am. I want to thank you all for letting me stalk a bit before saying hello and I look forward to getting to know you!

    New post-op er

You're still on liquids though right? A lot of people are hungry during the liquid phase. Once you start eating real food, you'll notice the restriction.

    Food Addiction

Yes, definitely talk to a counselor. It'll help. It's hard dealing with multiple things at once, I have depression too and am fighting not using food as comfort food or a crutch while losing weight.

    Food Addiction

If you have access to counseling, by all means, take advantage of it. If we had a "normal" relationship with food, we never would have gotten obese. The surgery is just a small part of the success. It's much more important to get your head in the game. Good luck!

    Hair Loss

I had a lot of thinning especially at my temples and hairline. My hair is very thick and no one seemed to notice but me. The only time anyone said anything was a few months ago I was at work and all my baby hairs were wildly flying about everywhere... The amount you lose will vary and how noticeable it is depends on how much hair you start with. Mine is growing back now I am fifteen months out, so it is temporary for most of us. Losing a bit of hair, loose skin and all, I would not change my decision.

Good morning! So my surgery date is 3/28/19 and I started my 2 week liquid diet yesterday. I was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes last year in June before I started pursuing bariatric surgery and this diagnosis actually pushed me to go through with it so I decided to not go on insulin since this surgery has such a high rate of success in putting diabetes into remission. I'm getting nervous though since my fasting glucose result just came back and it was really high, 170 to be exact, and I'm worried my surgery might be delayed because of this?
