Medical professionals : why do you do the work you do? Why did choose to work with Bariatric patients? OMGOSH, the responses have been amazing. From family and personal experiences you learn so much. I met nurse, who attended an Ivy League school, who has been practicing for two years and loves work with people. On two occasions, she grew her hair and donated the hair to organizations that make wigs for children. So, I challenge you in the midst of your discomfort, to focus on people around you - so they see understand that Bariatric patients are individuals who want to live, love, dance in the rain, and focusing on this experience to share with others. Man, could we focus on the bad things but I am focusing on the great things awaiting me on the other side! Thank you Lord!

    Not seeing myself any different

I've lost a total of 70 (both pre- and post- surgery). I just started to see it a little. It didn't help that I didn't lose a pant size until I'd lost 50#. So, now, every month I take pictures (front and side in a full-lenth mirror wearing roughly the same thing) and measurements (bust, chest, waist, hips, both thighs, both calves, both upper arms, and neck). I still really don't see it in the pictures, but I can see where it's coming off in the measurements. For example, I saw that I lost a LOT in my legs and hips in month one, but almost nothing in my waist - which is why I wasn't really losing clothing sizes. Month 2, though, I could see that I lost several inches in my waist. So, while my brain still looks in the mirror or at a picture and says "You look the same", my brain can look at the measurements and logically know that isn't true. It has helped me a lot.

That is amazing! Such a great reminder and motivation early in the recovery process.

I was blessed to have a recovery room nurse that shared her before/after WLS photos with me, she'd lost 109 pounds and she kept me preoccupied from feeling nauseous and sick while recovering from the surgery.

    Arthritis pain, bad knees

I was seriously considering bypass surgery until my surgeon said NO IBUPROFEN if I have bypass but perfectly OK with the sleeve. I have a bad disk in my back. I take Advil all of the time and have had no problem at all. Sleeved in June 2018.

    Help

I typically have a glass of wine before dinner. Should I completely stop before starting on this journey? I go for a consultation for weight loss surgery next week.

    Pills stuck

YES! I actually felt it when I stuck my finger down my throat to induce vomiting 😫 but it wasn't in a position where I could sweep it out.

I have an ethical problem with MLM companies, and choose not to do business with them.

Thanks for posting about your experience with Dr. Oldham. I'm just starting the process - attended the seminar last night. I'm excited, anxious and all of the other emotions! Turned in my paperwork and waiting for my phone call!
