    *Psych Evaluation Tips?

Just be honest. They're not trying to trick you, they just want to make sure that you'll be able to handle a life-altering surgery. During my psych consult I had to do 2 or 3 (can't remember) questionnaires. No difficult questions, but a lot of strange questions—I think some were to just determine if you were reading all of the questions. During my conversation with the psychologist, he asked about my life: family history, relationships with family and significant other, why I wanted the surgery, if I had a history of ED. He also asked me questions about VSG. I had to describe what the surgery was for and physically what would happen because of the surgery (removal of 80% of stomach). I specifically remember that he asked me if it was reversible. Our conversation was only 20 minutes or so and he told me after that he didn't see any issues with me getting the surgery.

Ten years ago I had by-pass surgery. My starting weight was 562. It has been a long road, and I wanted my goal to be 180. I am 218 and now I find out my weight for 5'1" should be 143. I really think I can get that thin. HELP!!!!!

    cost

I would think it would vary widely depending on high high your deductible is, what is your maximum out of pocket expense limit under your plan, etc. For me, last month, the surgeon and hospital bills totaled around $56,000 billed, of which the insurance paid at their negotiated rate $23,000 and my portion out of pocket was only $600

    Vitamins

re: calcium - I actually take 2000 mg (500 mg 4x a day) because I have osteoporosis, but 1500 mg (500 mg 3x a day) is pretty standard for RNY patients. Don't forget - we don't absorb everything 100%, which is why we have to do things like take two multivitamins a day, too - whereas most people just take one. So no, 1500 mg is probably not excessive for a WLS patient. P.S. VSG patients don't have the same malabsorbtion issues that RNY patients do, but I think most of them are told to take 1500 mg a day, too.

My nutritionist told us not to get gummies. She said "If it looks like candy, and sounds like candy, ITS CANDY."
