I Believe It Was Worth It

Yes! Best decision ever made and allowed me to make changes to live healthier. It was a year yesterday and I am eternally grateful to have made the decision and continue to follow what I need to

    Ouch My Pouch!!

Sorry your tummy was unhappy. I doubt it was the drinking, though. That's quite a lot of food for 3 weeks out, even eating just half of it. 1/2 cup max is probably all your pouch can hold.

I Was Amazed When I Heard This

I don’t think I could tolerate it that soon, but steak is not an unhealthy food, it has tons of protein and if he is getting a doggie bag, he seems to be following the plan, no? He’s not taking down a buffet or eating even eating a piece of cake, just a piece of protein in a small portion. I think the “how” is a reasonable question, but not the “why”.

So far, what has been tougher than you thought it would be, and what has been easier? Hunger and resisting sweets has been easier than I thought it would be. I also had less pain and fatigue than I thought. What is harder than I thought is drinking water, not eating and drinking at the same time and getting enough protein. How about you?

    Fear of failure...

I'm only 2 months out, but I've been seeing my therapist for awhile. She specializes is weight issues. Just today we talked about this and how to set myself up to feel like I have structures in place to keep me on the right path. She even gave me permission (and some ideas) to have a bit of my favorite christmas food and set up some structure for not having it become a problem. I can say, talking it out with someone who specializes in these issues really, really helps.

    Waiting on Approval...

Could be right after Christmas but my personal bet, either January 4th or January 7th 2019. But I would be HAPPY to be proved Wrong!👈👸👉

If he had surgery in early November, then he’d be on a general diet according to my surgeon’s timeline. I had steak less than two months out, about half of a kid’s portion at a Black Angus in Phoenix. Not really seeing the issue here, protein is protein.

I have no problem with steak as a protein choice. He didn't eat the whole portion and doggie bags are cost effective for bariatric patients. Support groups can get a bit crazy. My top local support group things not to do. A person a week out from surgery ate doritos and ended up in the ER. Bariatric surgeons potluck. We were asked to bring bariatric friendly foods/recipes to share. Someone made a sugar free chocolate cake with real sugar frosting.

    Feeling out of sorts

Congrats on being so healthy starting out. Many are not so fortunate; I was one like you. I just knew that eventually, it would all catch up to me. I'm sure when the surgeon evaluated you, he did some significant abdominal palpating. One of the things he was looking for was a "fatty liver". That doesn't mean fat around the liver, it means the liver itself has pockets of fat. That is what the liver-shrinking diet is for. To thin down a fatty liver enough to ensure that the surgeon has enough room to manipulate the liver out of the way safely. Clearly, your doc didn't think yours was an issue. I had no diabetic issues before the surgery and my levels have remained normal after surgery. This isn't a source of worry, it should be a source of comfort. You may be the healthiest person the surgeon operates on all week, which means your chances of an uneventful surgery are higher and you'll likely have a quicker recovery. Best of luck with your new life!

    Fear of failure...

All the time. We've failed at this so often in the past it's hard to imagine a different outcome
