    Pre op diet

I'm worried suddenly. First of all, my surgery date was set for December 13th on November 30th. So I was told to start the pre op diet on December first, but then they couldn't get me in to a Pre op diet class until December 6th. I did start on the first, but that was not two weeks out, then when i went to the class i found i was not doing it quite right. I was eating 2% cheese, but "not the right kind" and my protein drinks had to many calories. My powder is fine, but then adding it to a drink made it more calories than they allow. So what I'm saying is, I'm basically only getting one week of pre op diet before my surgery this Thursday. Should i consider asking my surgeon to reschedule so I can try again and get that liver all shrunk up like they want? I want to do everything right, this is kind of a kind about thing! I'm worried 😟!

This preop diet is killing me

I'm on day 3 of my 2 week preop diet. The slightest smell of food is making me want to back out of surgery. I'm on 3-4 protein shakes and 3ozs of lean meat and a serving of veggies per day. I'm scheduled for gastric bypass on December 19th. I really need this surgery, but I'M STARVING! Any suggestions on how I can curb or ignore the hunger pains? I had my VSG on 11/19/18. All went very smoothly at the hospital, I was able to get up and walk a bunch, and was discharged at 11 am the next morning. Unfortunately, at about day 6 I noticed that I had thrush and am still taking meds to get rid of it. The first was Nystatin and now on Diclofenac. I also got VERY constipated from the iron supplements, but luckily some Miralax unclogged me. My highest ever weight was 319lbs, I was 282lbs at my first visit with my surgeon and 270lbs on my surgery date. As of this morning, December 9th I am 245lbs.

    Disgusted

Everyone's body reacts differently to the surgery. We all have different metabolisms. Keep in mind you just lost about 3/4 of your stomach. Your body and your system has to take time to catch up to get used to this huge change. It will work, give it some time. Also, don't obsess over the scale, the first six weeks should be dedicated to your healing. The sleeve needs to heal. Follow the program that was given to you.

That's funny you mentioned the spice, I learned that fast, no spicy foods before the tummy is completely healed...Now I can tolerate it a little better. I do still enjoy going out to restaurants, wings are my little cheat food, I can only eat about 1.5 and feel so satisfied, I am not reccommending this but when I go out I do order a small water and I sip a little while eating because I just can't wait the 30 minutes and I feel stressed trying to follow the rule while out but that's just me and it works for me. It's trial and error, we still can enjoy life 😉

Yes. I had pain with swallowing and going down in the beginning if I swallowed too big a bite and didn’t chew enough. The pain was bad. I hope things gets easier for you soon.

I'm 2+ years out. I've lost 95% of my excess weight. I have not had plastics - which would account for that last 5%. I eat a high protein, low carb diet and exercise 7 days a week. I eat roughly 1500 calories a day. I exercise at least 1 hour each day. A typical day is: Morning - coffee - black, greek yogurt (Skyr Icelandic provisions), 2 tablespoons of granola Mid morning - protein shake (1 cup fairlife skim milk, 1 scoop protein, handful frozen fruit in blender) Lunch - 3-5 ounces of chicken/turkey/beef, 2 cups of green salad mix, 1 tablespoon balsamic dressing mid afternoon - 2-3 ounces cheddar or other hard cheese Dinner - 3-5 ounces meat, salad or green veg and 1/4 c of a starch. I have had to increase my carbs to about 110 g daily due to my exercise load. I fence (en garde) 6-8 hours a week, do Cross Fit 3 hours a week and pilates and strength training another 1-3 hours a week. I eat about 110 g protein daily. I eat protein first. I drink close to a gallon of water a day. If I want a glass of wine or a cocktail, I have one. At my high point, I was over 300. I now sit around 152 with 29% bodyfat. I can deadlift 250 pounds and squat 235. I'm nationally ranked as a fencer in my age group. How well you do it up to you and your commitment to it. I've gone from a size 24 to a size 6.

(VSG) To those who were successful..

This is such great advice! Especially since I don't have as much restriction...I could get up to severe shenanigans if I didn't weigh and measure everything! Even though I CAN eat more, doesn't mean I have given myself permission TO eat more. Nope, I still try to stick as close to my doc's and RD's plan for me.
