    Weight Journey

    I've got a surgery date

I'm excited and nervous about my upcoming gastric bypass on Dec 5th. Any suggestions for preparing myself for this. 😁 of course my doctor and nutritionist have gone over things, however, they have not gone through the surgery Thanks!

    Post-Op Week 6 & 7 Plateau

HI, Today is my 7th week post surgery. I've lost 24 pounds but the last two weeks...nothing. I have my third post-op appointment next Thursday. My Dr. said he wanted me to loose 10 pounds by that appointment and I've only lost 3. I'm feeling a lot of pressure to "make weight" by next Thursday and it's really making me angry. I've spent my life being a slave to the scale and now that I've had the surgery, I just want to be good to my body and have a healthy attitude toward my weight loss and new eating habits. Thank you to anyone who reads this and has any wisdom or encouragement to share. I've never before participated in a site like this but I feel isolated because my schedule doesn't allow for me to join any support groups. Thanks again to all of you "out there"

Because I have insurance it was a very long process of getting required steps met in order to get a surgery date. But one I had a date set everything moved very quickly and I remember feeling excited and nervous or panicked at the same time. I think what you are feeling is very normal considering this really is a life changing experience. One day at a time and keep the end goal as a reminder why you started this process. My surgery was almost not approved and I prayed "Lord if this is your will for me then everything will come back approved and if it isn't approved I'll know to stop trying to get it done." This was my second attempt over the last almost 3 years. If you are Christian I'd say just keep praying and asking for peace with your decision to move forward and find comfort knowing you are in the hands of the Lord and he's not going to let anything happen to you. You can do it.

I reckon nearly everyone has some level of stress prior to surgery. In my case it wasn't the operation itself (coz of a variety of illnesses I've been under that many times I've lost count) but more the panic of what this will mean to be permanently unable to eat a family size block of chocolate in one sitting (I know, I know, priorities - right!) Be kind to yourself! If you find yourself obsessing over it, try and break the brain cycling with a distraction. Come and read all the VET success stories here. You can do this - it's hard work but oh so worth it! Sent from my SM-G930F using BariatricPal mobile app

    Severe Anxiety After Scheduling Surgery

If Death was a definate possibility, would there still be so many posters on Bariatric Pal? Probably should be a large mural outside Wedding Chapels stating " Marriage May Be Hazardous to Your Health!"& do you think people would slow down their headfirst jog into the nearest one.?🎉🎊🍰💑

    Exhausted

I'm also an insomniac with sleep apnea, although that's so much better now, I still need a machine. Work on getting into a schedule if you can, for me I'm doing Intermittent Fasting between 6pm and 8am and it's worked out great, not only for sleep, but for the weight loss as well. It seemed harder than it was to get myself into a schedule, but once I did, it works out quite well. Not sure what state you are in, but there is some really positive results with cannabis for sleep issues, and if medical cannabis isn't legal in your state yet or if you are like me and have a federal job and can't use it because it's still not federally legal, there is Dronabinol / Marinol (and it's covered on most medical plans) it's not as effective since it's just THC and no CBD, but it does work wonders for the insomnia!

    Mental Starvation?

Also as @Kay07 vary the viscosity of your protein! Try protein puddings (mix instant ff sugar free pudding with fairlife ff milk + a scoop of protein powder or peanut butter powder and make into pudding. You can even mix it with some ff whipped cream (I use Land o' Lakes) and then plop it by spoons onto plastic wrap and freeze them into little pillows of protein heaven. Make slushies, make protein teas (hot and cold), protein coffees/lattes/iced coffee/frappacinos. Make Wendy's protein Frosties. Add some fruit and blend the hell out of it. If you're worried about too much fiber in there, push it through a strainer. Sometimes just making it thick like a milk shake helps. You can do that by adding a bit of avocado or a small piece or 2 of frozen banana. Eat sf fudgsicles, and make protein popsicles and protein ice cream if you have an ice cream freezer.

    Mental Starvation?

I am currently 3wks post op and I can begin eating soft solids in 2 days. The last two weeks of protein shakes have really done damage to me mentally. I feel like I am starving. I cannot tolerate drinking all of my shakes so I am not exactly getting in enough protein. Anyway, all I do is think about food and it is killing me. I was not prepared for this at all. So far most of the people I talk to say they weren't hungry. Does this mean I'm crazy? Maybe I didn't really have anything removed! This has really taken a toll on me emotionally. Am I the only one?!
