    Uhhhhh!!!I'm so ready for change

My mother had Gastric Bypass with duodenal switch 26 years ago, she turns 70 this year. I promise you, she wouldn't have made it this long if she did not have the surgery. Them saying that people dont live long after bariatric surgery is patently false.

    Help. Pre-op

Do not worry or beat yourself up, cheats happen, just do your best to stay on plan. Not all pre-op diets are the same and most are not "set in stone" if you are having issues, reach out to your team and ask them if you can change things a bit to help you stay on task. Most teams would rather make small changes to keep you focused than not and risk having you go totally off the plan. it's hard, but it does make things easier post-op. Keep focused on why you want the surgery, keep that in mind at all times, it'll help you when you are feeling defeated. You have not lost until you give up.

    Lapband Replacement

I'm another failed band converted to mini-gastric bypass. It's early days for me but I second / third the previous posters. Bands are so finicky. Plus if you go bypass it is theoretically reversible if you're worried about changing your anatomy. Sent from my SM-G930F using BariatricPal mobile app

    Bariatric and Alcoholism....

This is absolutely fascinating. I know that at my center we had to attend a mandatory session on the increased risk of alcoholism developing due to this surgery. I am pretty sure the percentages were listed higher than you quoted, with an even greater chance if alcohol dependency runs in the family. I definitely get the transference as I have seen that first hand in a number of former addicts who have successfully resolved their dependency on alcohol and drugs, but I have not heard of vitamin deficiency being a potential contributor. Would be interested in seeing if there is a link!

    Exhausted

I'm also an insomniac with sleep apnea, although that's so much better now, I still need a machine. Work on getting into a schedule if you can, for me I'm doing Intermittent Fasting between 6pm and 8am and it's worked out great, not only for sleep, but for the weight loss as well. It seemed harder than it was to get myself into a schedule, but once I did, it works out quite well. Not sure what state you are in, but there is some really positive results with cannabis for sleep issues, and if medical cannabis isn't legal in your state yet or if you are like me and have a federal job and can't use it because it's still not federally legal, there is Dronabinol / Marinol (and it's covered on most medical plans) it's not as effective since it's just THC and no CBD, but it does work wonders for the insomnia!

    Pre Opt Diet Pills

I'm sorry, I don't know what those acronyms stand for LOL. I am doing the sleeve surgery. I feel a little uneducated about my surgery. I been waiting so long for the insurance to approve it that I been focusing on getting them what they want.

    Mental Starvation?

Also as @Kay07 vary the viscosity of your protein! Try protein puddings (mix instant ff sugar free pudding with fairlife ff milk + a scoop of protein powder or peanut butter powder and make into pudding. You can even mix it with some ff whipped cream (I use Land o' Lakes) and then plop it by spoons onto plastic wrap and freeze them into little pillows of protein heaven. Make slushies, make protein teas (hot and cold), protein coffees/lattes/iced coffee/frappacinos. Make Wendy's protein Frosties. Add some fruit and blend the hell out of it. If you're worried about too much fiber in there, push it through a strainer. Sometimes just making it thick like a milk shake helps. You can do that by adding a bit of avocado or a small piece or 2 of frozen banana. Eat sf fudgsicles, and make protein popsicles and protein ice cream if you have an ice cream freezer.

    Ugh! Halloween candy is here.

Having the candy in the house is too much for me. Luckily, the kids dont like what i do, so i am getting rid of my tempations. Ive had 2 slips already. My sleeve kept it from being a full on binge fest but being so newly post op has me feeling like a bit of a failure. Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Liver shrink diet

Also, in my experience, the first day is the hardest. It gets easier the longer you're on it.
