    Out the other side

I did it! I'm out the other side of surgery, this is my second full day post-op. After surgery I felt like a donkey had kicked me, yesterday I felt like it was just a large dog. Today, a small terrier, maybe. So you just have to get through the first 24—48 sucky hours and then it will be OK! Also my suggestion is ask for all the pain relief drugs they are willing to give you. Does make a difference! I'm on liquids now but in the hospital they gave me Dutch Rusks to actually eat which was beyond weird. I never thought I'd be eating anything for a month. But I'd brought over enough protein shake powders to keep a small army travelling so that's what I'm having for brekkie, lunch and tea now. WATERMELON. it's out of season and I cry a little every time I spend the big bucks...lol....but it's the treat I crave like nothing else. If anyone had told me I'd literally crave watermelon more than candy, donuts, fresh baked bread....I'd have said they were crazy. I bought a deli container of melon chunks and ate it in the car the other day. LOL. But I thought...ya know...this is the time I used to break down and get fast food...after shopping. It's a habit trigger. So, now I eat watermelon in the car after shopping. I can live with that compromise.

    Thyroid Uptake with Radioactive Tracers

Hello My Friends 💜 I had Gastric Bypass in July. So far I am doing pretty well, feeling great, I have my three month check-up with my surgeon the end of the month! But today I wanted to talk more about something else I am a thyroid cancer survivor, I was diagnosed, had my thyroid removed and did radiation in 2012. Every year my oncologist alternates between doing a chest x-ray or a Thyroid uptake scan to check that the cancer is not back. I am due for a Thyroid uptake scan soon. I WILL be talking with my surgeon at my appointment about it. But was curious if any of you wonderful people were also Thyroid Cancer survivors or have done a thyroid uptake scan post-op. My main concern is that while the dose of radiation you take for an uptake scan is not as high as when you are doing actual radiation I will still be swallowing a radioactive pill, which they request/suggest you take with a full glass of water all at once. I know I can not drink that much water all at once, but I am also concerned that if I am discouraged to consume caffeine for six months post-op (which is what my program suggests I know not all of them do) that consuming actual radioactive materials is probably not advisable either. Anyone here who does Radioactive Thyroid Uptake Scans? Any suggestions on how long you waited post-op? Again I will talk with my doctor's both my Bariatric Surgeon and my Oncologist about my concerns and imagine that I will just be pushing the Uptake scan out at least a year post-op but I am just checking to see what other peoples experiences were...

    Juice post op?

Did anyone’s dr tell them to drink juice post op? Sounds crazy to me. Long story short my revision is tomorrow (not wl related but for reflux) and my new dr said for the first week post op just drink juice mixed with water. But in my head i’m like why on earth would you want me to drink sugar? Like it sounds so backwards to me but idk. I’m also not allowed to have food until january, has anyone else had to wait that long? My first time around, i started slowly eating soft foods after about a week or 2 and i was fine, the weight came right off and hasn’t come back.

    Juice post op?

The only thing that has caused dumping with me after my vsg was hot wings from Krystal's. our electricity went out after a bad storm (it stays out for hours when this happens). I didn't have bottled water to make a protein shake and it was dinner. We are on well water so when electricity goes, so does our water. We went to Krystal's and I thought wings would be safe since there's no bun and it's chicken. WRONG! Lesson learned

    Juice post op?

VSG and RNY surgeries are totes diff on how they handle sugar and how much you can handle without dumping. It's way more rare to dump from VSG--not unheard of--just not as usual...

Congratulations! Bets advice is stay hydrated and rest up. You have a whole new wonderful world waiting for you to begin as soon as you leave hospital. Good luck and Aloha [emoji4] Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Frustrated

During this stage, I survived on SF Popsicles and primarily homemade bone broth soups. I ate a lot of soup during my liquid phase because it was the only thing my pouch could accept. The soup also satisfied my "hunger" feelings because I was drinking something I made and it was low in sodium. You've got this, I promise it gets easier as you move forward.

    Ok...what is that smell???!!!

Personally, I didn't experience any extra offensive BM smells after surgery. However, as a CNA I have personally cleaned people who have been on nothing but liquids for a while and it can have a very.....distinct smell/consistency. I'm sure it's likely just a reaction of your body being on only liquids. As long as you aren't hurting I wouldn't be too terribly concerned. And Poo-Pourri is a game changer for real.

    It's about Me

    Six Months After My VSG

Thank you! I was wearing a size 18-20 jeans and XXL tops. I am now wearing a size 8-10 jeans and a Med-Large top. It is so weird looking at myself now and before.
