Nice, post! I think though, one thing that is missing, is that ketosis just means your body is burning fat for energy. So you don't need to be ultra low carb to be in ketosis. You just have to have a significant enough calorie deficient that your body has no option than to use your fat stores.

I put on 5 pounds in a week with my food funeral. I think most of us do it, we are human. Food is a huge part of our lives, we need to mourn. Don't beat your self up over it.

Complications are very rare and I'm sure you wouldn't use a surgeon without a great reputation. I'd be happy to pray for a successful surgery and for your peace of mind if you'd like me to. Personally, I knew that the odds of my death were much higher every time I got behind the wheel of a car. I take my life in my hands every day and don't get to sleep through it! Honestly, it will be over before you know it!

We all have done the food funerals. I did mine right up until I had to start the prep diet. I gained too - might have been the large cheese with extra cheese pizza I had!!!! It will come off. Be dedicated to the prep diet, very important to get you in the best shape for your surgery. No more tears, you ARE doing this and not alone.

Bone broth from Walmart, cook some veggies in it and strain, some protein water as shakes are thick and sweet, crystal light, sf popsicles. You will need to hydrate as much as possible. Premier protein shakes are tolerated by many of us after surgery but don't overstock. I also tolerated Isopure ready-made blue raspberry or punch diluted w crystal light. Most important is hydration as it takes all day long sipping. You will not feel restriction or fullness until you get to real food so don't be alarmed that even thick liquids aren't restrictive. What you will feel though is inflammation and swelling, so sip slowly. You may not be hungry or sometimes hunger is acid reflux. You will however feel the effects on your body from lack of nutrition, it will be fatigue, no focus. Drink something and take a nap. Light headedness is a sign of dehydration, do not dismiss this - push liquids even if you do not feel like it. Walk off the anesthetic, the only cure for that and the gas. You might get constipated, ask doc about what to take - I would ask now and get some items. Good luck.

I wasn’t aware that this was disabled for certain groups. It’s now enabled again. Thanks for letting me know about this.

Highest weight was 463. I am just barely over a year out and have lost 201 lbs. It's definitely do-able as long as you stick to the plan. So happy with my decision - my life has improved in so many ways.

I finally got a surgery date, after extreme stress for the past few years. My mom passed away on Mother's Day and I flew in from out of state just in time to be with her. We had a very rough past few years losing both of my brothers, one to cancer and one quite suddenly. This threw my mom into a deep depression and dementia that got progressively worse. Trying to deal with it from another state was very hard and she didn't want any help. I got through losing my younger brother but my older brother really crushed me. I have no other siblings. Now, my husband has prostate cancer that spread to his pelvic bone. Our lives have changed forever. As long as the meds they put him on work, he can live for another 10 or more years. He has started hormone pills as that is the best treatment to keep the Testosterone down. I pray it works as my entire immediate family is gone and I'm terrified of being alone and living without him. His moods are up and down and everyone tells me I have to be strong for him, but I'm not sure I have much strength left! He wants me to go through with the surgery and of course I am, but I have so many other things on my mind. Sorry for venting so much. I am really lonely and scared, but need to do this for myself. I'm hoping it will turn my life around. My husband is trying to prepare me for a life without him and after 33 years of marriage and working so hard toward our retirement plans, I wonder what our future is. My pre-op is Oct. 10 and my surgery is Oct. 23rd. We should know by then if the hormone pills are helping. I hope all the stress I'm under doesn't effect my recovery.
