    My Niece's wedding

My Niece and her fiance announced their engagement a year ago this month. At the time, I had only been to one diet visit with the clinic I went to for surgery and I was still debating if I wanted to have the procedure done. A month after their announcement, she asked me to be her maid of honor. But inside I was already dreading it. At that time, I had maybe 2 outfits that fit correctly and was always uncomfortable. I knew I was going to have a struggle trying to find a dress that fit and that I could afford. I was already thinking of how fat I was going to look in the pictures....I felt like I would ruin them. I never said it out loud, but I was certain she would regret asking me to do it due to my size. That is very mean and shallow thinking on my part. I know my niece loves me regardless of my size. But that is the way I thought of myself at the time. I hated looking in the mirror. I hated having my picture taken. I flat out didn't like looking at myself. Being part of the wedding didn't make the decision to have the surgery, as I had already been considering it. But it did help push me in the right direction. Here it is a year later, post op, and lost 40+ pounds. The best part? I went from a size 28 down to a 22 in 2 months. Not only was I able to buy a dress at a regular department store, but I ordered in ONLINE and it FIT!!! Something I have NEVER done!!!! First pic is of me and my niece the day she asked me to be the MOH. I know you can't see my body but that's as good as it gets. I had to approve the photo to be posted and I wouldn't have if my body was in it. lol The other is me in my dress!!!!! (Forgive the awful lighting and basement background, lol)

A few questions + my background

Hey, I’m Joey I’m from New Jersey. I’m probably one of the youngest people to be on this forums as I just turned 17 at the start of this month. I was 390 pounds at my highest, 375 pounds in the day of surgery (08/28/18) and am currently 345 lbs. at the moment I’m super worried because this morning I gained a pound for the first time. I do pretty heavy exercise 2 or 3 times a day and pretty much eat the way I’m supposed to with a very few modifications. If anything I’m eating less then I’m supposed to. Why did I gain a pound? Also how much 16.9 oz water bottles should I have a day and how long should it take me to finish one? Thank you!

    Protein Supplementation

Thanks Ash, I think this sounds like solid advice. If I haven't learned that from using slimfast, it sounds like it's going to be a similar experience with these.

    Protein Supplementation

I can understand getting burned out on shakes, about 15 years ago I did slimfast and lost about 50 lbs and by the time I stopped, I was so sick of the shakes it started making me nauseous when I smelled vanilla. Thanks for the advice.

    My experience with a leak

Just read your post. I was wondering what kind of stent you had? I had an esophageal stent for 6 weeks after my esophagus was torn during surgery. It was awful to have that stent. Your story sounds very familiar someone that had a somewhat similar experience. I am 1 1/2 years out doing great and i do not regret the surgery but it does still haunt me at times what all i went through. I also think that i am more committed to keeping the weight off since i almost died for it. Sent from my LGMS550 using BariatricPal mobile app

I’ve had tattoos and idk, I don’t find them that painful, but I was pretty uncomfortable after surgery. Never had a kid though, so maybe childbirth made you tougher than me! 😂 To the OP, I was you before surgery. My anxiety was through the roof. I totally thought I’d wimp out. I didn’t. Was I uncomfortable after? Yes. The first four days were a bit tough for me, but not so bad that I ever regretted my decision. I’m about two months out now and can say it has all been worth it for me.

It is true, we all have different tolerances to pain. What may be excruciating for one person, may feel uncomfortable for the next person and there is no way to gauge how you will react if you have never had surgery. It is okay to feel uncomfortable and you will survive it. The human body has processes in place to cope with discomfort, along with medications you will receive. Most of us are up walking mere hours after surgery. Sure we aren’t skipping for joy, but we are able to move, use the restroom, etc.

I had the same problem. Tomorrow is 4 weeks post op and it’s definitely gotten better the last week or so. Hang in there!!
