August 27, 2018: The gastric bypass procedure reduces the size of a patient’s stomach by more than 90 percent. This procedure affects people physically and emotionally, said Alex Brecher, who launched the online community Bariatric Pal (bariatricpal.com) after his own lap band surgery in 2003. The website has message boards, a store that sells a wide variety of products for men and women who have had weight loss surgery, and even helps arrange less expensive surgeries in Tijuana, Mexico, for patients whose insurance won’t cover the procedures. http://www.dailypress.com/news/dp-fea-bolt-bariatric-20180802-story.html# Brecher, who traded in his lap band for bariatric surgery earlier this year, said the dramatic weight loss can also bring about some unexpected emotional issues. “Some people aren’t ready to look in the mirror and see something other than an overweight person,” Brecher said. “They see that different face looking back, and a lot of times they realize they still have to deal with the emotional things that got them to being overweight to begin with. When you lose weight and you’re not able to lean on food for emotional support, it can bring the other stuff to the surface.”

    Paranoid as hell!

Let your body heal. Your belly is healing and your body is holding air from surgery. From what I've read liquids can't stretch your belly because they just pass through. Flatulence is good, it's going to help relieve the gas pains in your belly. Call your surgeon and voice your concerns with them. I'm only repeating what I learned from others here. Either way Congrats on your surgery and best of luck to you sir!!!!

    Worlds longest stall

2 years post op and lost nearly 200 pounds. I have been in a stall for almost a year. I fluctuate about 10 pounds (gain and then loss) but I cannot get below the 190 mark. I have tried everything! I workout 5 days a week, try to stay at 1200 canals although with the excercise calorie adjustment it is usually around 1500c. I feel EXTREMELY guilty when I put anything bad in my mouth but then there a days ( usually once a month) when I will go on a mini binge and have little snacks throughout the day that are completely unhealthy. I love the way I feel but I still have fat brain and I am EXTREMELY frustrated that I can’t drop below 190! Btw...this is my first post, I usually just troll

Is salmon too fatty for post op diet?

OK that makes sense and thanks for explaining 😀. I have pcos so I def have to do low carb. I am one of the odd balls that actually gain weight doing weight watchers. Before surgery couldn't do more than 30g carbs at a meal. Post nutritionist has me at under 6 per meal.

    Why is water painful?

it took me a few days before my body would allow me water of any sort also. Just try a little every day.

    Diet Preachers

I have had so many experiences with these diet preachers, but they're not as annoying as the "Why don't you just love the way you are" preachers. Loving myself doesn't prevent diabetes and heart disease.

    Any other Minnesotans out there?

I am in MN as well. There are certain fair foods I have tried. They were mostly protein. That way you don’t have to miss going to the fair and go with a group if you need a taste just take a bite of a friends food. My nurse is all about not depriving yourself. I eat healthy 98% of the time!!

Well I am next week, September 5th, but I will take a corner of the Well Wishes for myself. Hey hope for the best, work with the not'-the-best and make this journey your own. Step by Step into the future🌈 and may there be only sunny days ahead!

    Diet Preachers

I am in public safety where keto is running rampant. There have been quite a few diet preachers that I have dealt with, even my best friend that was pretty unsupportive and was upset because intermittent fasting was working for him. He doesn't realize that we have different genetics. Most of his family is tall and skinny wile mine is short and overweight. I had tried most diets with short term success but he as well as those around me didn't understand that either. It was EXTREMELY aggravating and in the end I made my decision, didn't tell hardly anyone and know that I made the right choice for me. Everyone says that I look amazing and I feel amazing, you just have to know that you made the best choice for you and that it is your life not theirs!
