Apparently being post op RNY is a mosquito repellent. This weekend I was at an outdoor party and after dark everyone (except me!) was going nuts about mosquitos and drenching themselves in bug spray. Previously, as much as I hated the idea of spraying toxic chemicals on myself, I would eventually cave if they were really unbearable and douse myself as well. However- this time I hardly noticed an issue with them at all!!! Iโ€™m not sure what it is (possible malabsorption/malnutrition) that made me so unattractive to them, but Iโ€™ll take it! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

Losing hair - 8 days post up

Seriously? I was not told anything at all about hair loss, as long as we eat enough protein. Perhaps your body is just adjusting to your new pouch and the hair loss will stop. I sure hope it will! All the best.

Which Procedure is Right for Me

I think it is awesome that you are looking forward to a healthier life. Asking people's opinions here is a great way to start thinking about which way to go. However, the best resource is your bariatric team. There are many factors that make one procedure better than the other. Some of these factors can only be found by tests and the experience of the surgeon. For me, I was told by two different bariatric surgeons that the only procedure that would even be recommended was the sleeve. I have had multiple abdominal surgeries and these preclude having the bypass. By discussing everything with my current surgeon and along with my upper endoscopy and a follow-up CT scan, the best option for me is the sleeve. Good luck with your journey.

    Honeymoon period

^this^ The amount you lose and how long you lose isn't time based, sure there are averages, but the factors that play into this are many. How overweight you started at, why you were overweight in the first place, genetics, etc etc etc.

At this point, I eat whatever I want, I just avoid anything with added sugars and if it does have added sugars I do my best to make sure they are under 5 grams per serving. I don't worry about fat too much, but I *try* to stay under 5 grams per serving... I can pretty much eat anything, just in much MUCH smaller amounts.

Don't have a driving, fishing or hunting license currently. In many states, fishing and hunting licenses are free for seniors (65+). There are exemptions for certain fish/game, but free is free.

    Surgery Time

I wouldn't worry about it too much, normally surgeons leave PLENTY of time between cases for those issues, it's also possible that, that 5pm surgery is your surgeon's only surgery that day, and that it's that late because of all the other standard appointments they have with other patients. My surgery was SUPER early, so I can't talk to that part of the process, but if you are going in for your first WLS, the bypass generally only takes 2-3 hours total to perform. My revision took over 6, but that's because the lapband I was having removed was full encased in scar tissue and took way longer to get out than expected. Chalk the fears up to the typical pre-surgical jitters. Congrats and good luck!

There is evidence that smoking marijuana is harmful to lung tissue so it is understandable that some health care professionals would frown upon such practices from a health perspective whether it is legal or not. That is as far into the topic as Iโ€™m going. If you are a grown adult and it is legal and you are consuming within the bounds of the law then so be it.
