Apparently being post op RNY is a mosquito repellent. This weekend I was at an outdoor party and after dark everyone (except me!) was going nuts about mosquitos and drenching themselves in bug spray. Previously, as much as I hated the idea of spraying toxic chemicals on myself, I would eventually cave if they were really unbearable and douse myself as well. However- this time I hardly noticed an issue with them at all!!! I’m not sure what it is (possible malabsorption/malnutrition) that made me so unattractive to them, but I’ll take it! 😂😂

According to the internet: Nausea and vomiting are the most common complaints after bariatric surgery, and they are typically associated with inappropriate diet and noncompliance with a gastroplasty diet (ie, eat undisturbed, chew meticulously, never drink with meals, and wait 2 hours before drinking after solid food is consumed). If these symptoms are associated with epigastric pain, significant dehydration, or not explained by dietary indiscretions, an alternative diagnosis must be explored. One of the most common complications causing nausea and vomiting in gastric bypass patients is anastomotic ulcers, with and without stomal stenosis. Ulceration or stenosis at the gastrojejunostomy of the gastric bypass has a reported incidence of 3% to 20%. Although no unifying explanation for the etiology of anastomotic ulcers exists, most experts agree that the pathogenesis is likely multifactorial. These ulcers are thought to be due to a combination of preserved acid secretion in the pouch, tension from the Roux limb, ischemia from the operation, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) use, and perhaps Helicobacter pylori infection. Evidence suggests that little acid is secreted in the gastric bypass pouch; however, staple line dehiscence may lead to excessive acid bathing of the anastomosis. Treatment for both marginal ulcers and stomal ulcers should include (1) avoidance of NSAIDs, (2) antisecretory therapy with proton-pump inhibitors, and/or sucralfate. In addition,(3) H pylori infection should be identified and treated, if present. The other area that you should explore is the fact that you might have a stricture.

@margalit are you still losing weight or are you stable? I don't think you look like you are wasting away, maybe it feels that way, but that second photo, you appear to be a fairly healthy weight. There are lots of higher calorie options you can take to up your calorie count and get some weight back on you, high calorie proteins, shakes, etc all are options. I can't speak to the nausea, except to say, if you tried the synthetic THC, would your doctor maybe support you trying the natural version? There is more than just THC in cannabis, it might help you to be supplied with all the beneficial compounds in cannabis rather than using a single compound synthetic. I'm on marinol for sleep issues, it doesn't effect my appetite much if at all and I've never noticed any nausea relief either.

Losing hair - 8 days post up

Seriously? I was not told anything at all about hair loss, as long as we eat enough protein. Perhaps your body is just adjusting to your new pouch and the hair loss will stop. I sure hope it will! All the best.

    When was your first plateau?

I highly doubt you gained 4lbs. In fact, I know you didn't. Remember, it takes 3500 calories to gain 1 lb. You can't possibly be eating enough to gain any weight at this stage. There are many things that contribute to the scale fluctuating higher throughout post op. 1. Constipation, or just poop in general 2. Liquid retention 3. For women, periods 4. Swelling from the healing process 5. Time of day that you are weighing yourself.

At this point, I eat whatever I want, I just avoid anything with added sugars and if it does have added sugars I do my best to make sure they are under 5 grams per serving. I don't worry about fat too much, but I *try* to stay under 5 grams per serving... I can pretty much eat anything, just in much MUCH smaller amounts.

I am happy to answer any questions. From 356 to 207lbs. Who is a happy boy? That would be me. Best decision I've made in my life. Healthier, more confident, better family and social life. Thumbs up all around from moi. Loose skin, hell yeah, does it bother me, not really. It's part of the package. Love y'all, sorry I have not been around a while. I have a life now

There is evidence that smoking marijuana is harmful to lung tissue so it is understandable that some health care professionals would frown upon such practices from a health perspective whether it is legal or not. That is as far into the topic as I’m going. If you are a grown adult and it is legal and you are consuming within the bounds of the law then so be it.
