The anesthesia can sometimes have different effects on people's psyche. Also, your body has just been through something pretty traumatic. Personally, I was uncharacteristically emotional for a few weeks post-op (and a little depressed). Be easy with yourself, you've just had surgery.

    NEED COFFEE. ASAP. SOS

Each bariatric team has its own rules. Contact your team & ask specifically why no black coffee. Advocate for yourself. If they give you an answer you don't like or understand, challenge them. Remember that what happens in your home is ultimately up to you. Good luck! You are not alone.

I might be the only one willing to talk about it, but it’s mentally challenging too. It’s not all rainbows and butterflies when you get close to goal. I have a hard time as seeing myself as healthy/thinned. I still very much feel like the fat kid sometimes. Also the “old me” sometimes tries to come back and say “yeah totally go get that Sonic sandwich” and crap like that. Is it better, yes. Is it easier, not in every aspect of life. But that’s just my two cents. I’m young , I have a lot of time to reconcile my feelings about it all 😂

I'm not thin, nor do I want to be thin I am, however at a very healthy weight and my body fat is under 28%...which is perfect for me. I am a muscular, fit, strong force to be reckoned with. I run again, ride my mountain bike, landscape, kayak, rock climb and am having a hell of a lot of fun:) Best part is to be off all my meds (save thyroid) and have perfect labs. My diet is extremely different, but it's awesome and it makes me feel really good. I don't feel deprived and I splurge on treats in tightly controlled moderation. I exercise A LOT...I do fun stuff and it makes me feel really good:) It's worth it. And it's wonderful:)

    NEED COFFEE. ASAP. SOS

HELP! On my list it says decaffeinated coffee Pre-Op!! WHY?!?!?! My head is pounding already for a week. The withdrawals from everything else is bad enough. What will happen if I drink a regular black coffee? It even says I can have 1 Oz of skim milk! But HAS to be decaf. Why is caffeine so bad for you pre-op? And how come I am reading that a lot of people were allowed coffee before and after surgery? Why does mine say decaf specifically???!!!

thanks for that. i think i may have underestimated how big a deal it would be. all i feel like doing is lying around and watching tv. (hello, all three series of broadchurch!) i’m doing my walking and building up activity, but anything that requires mental exursion is just a no go. like i’ve been putting off a simple email for days now. just wanted to get a reality check and see if this has happened to others. 🙃

It's easier. Being thin is easier than being fat. No more worries about fitting into seats or sliding through tight spaces. Moving my body is easier. Buying clothes is easier, everything fits, huge choice of styles, and even the cheapest T-shirt looks good. Mostly, though, my change has been mental. When I was fat I felt judged by other people all the time, especially when I was food shopping or eating in public. I imagined people thinking, "Why is that fat person eating (or buying) ice cream? She doesn't need ice cream." Whether or not people actually thought this I don't know, but I always felt they were. Yesterday I was eating an ice cream cone and window shopping and didn't feel like anyone noticed. Seven years out and thin is a marvelous gift.

A bit of nausea is going to be expected while moving around for a bit, things are different inside you, so it'll take a little bit for everything to figure out what's what. Just keep moving!

    Eating too much?

Some foods are easier to eat larger amounts of, usually they are softer in texture, some people (me) lovingly call them sliders . Not a big deal when its protein based and you need the macros, a much bigger deal when the foods hold little to no nutritional value for your current lifestyle (crackers-no judgment I promise). To help with this you can eat only the recommended size (1/4-1/2 cup), watch out for these sliders and make sure you are eating for 30 mins or less (part of the 30/30/30 rule) because the stomach does eventually empty (it can happen while you are eating) Eating for longer periods means you'll be replacing cals too quickly and runs the risk of grazing (which means higher cal consumption effectively canceling out the effects of the surgery) Check with your team for more clarity
