Had my two week post op appointment today! I’m 21 lbs down 🤗 making me 178!! I’m cleared to workout minus heavy lifting and abs!! I have one more week on liquids and then I can fully enjoy soft foods!! I tolerate water really well. Actually nothing really makes feel bad. Energy is back and my incisions are almost non visible!!! Only 38 lbs left until I’m at my goal!!!

I feel like a total failure

if you aren't tracking you need to be. it is the best way to stay accountable. Also, are you making good food choices? You are mistaken if you think it is about restriction. restriction lessens over time as your body adapts, that is normal and expected. most people can eat a whole plate of food by a year post op. it is why food choices and diet are so important and every bariatric program recommends a bariatric diet post op. the hormone grehlin does go away, but for most it does come back (your body is smart and adjusts). if you are experiencing hunger pangs (particularly if it is happening when it shouldn't) there is a possibility it is actually stomach acid and you need to get on a PPI like prevacid. you should talk to your doctor about it. I strongly recommend looking up dr Matthew weiners videos on youtube. he does a very good job explaining in laymans terms why and how bariatric surgery works.

In the past when I had been banded for 1 year I stalled for quite awhile. I was also textbook perfect on my diet. My answer was to amp up my exercise. I started the couch to 5k learn to run program. Over 10 weeks I progressed from 30 seconds of running to 20 minutes nonstop and then in one more week I was running 45 min nonstop and doing 5km. This chewed through the stall and got me to my goal. Fast forward 10 years and a slipped band and arthritis, I’ve now regained most. My VGS surgery is this week. I know I’ll have stalls again, without the ability to run. So I’m going to swim instead. My advice - keep going on your nutrition plan and amp up the fitness.

    I am over it.

So I haven’t told many people about me going through the process to have WLS my surgery is scheduled for July 3rd and I just don’t particularly care to hear about others opinions on it at this point in my journey. Well today I find out my grandmother is going around telling EVERYONE who will listen about me having the surgery. I. AM. PISSED. I didn’t even tell her about it so someone else apparently needed to share information about it as well. Now all I’ve heard all day is how I don’t need the surgery and how I don’t even look “big” enough to have the surgery. I’m 5’3 and weighed 250 lbs at the beginning of my pre-surgery weight loss. That is medically considered obese. I’m so frustrated right now and I just don’t know what to do about this situation. I can’t necessarily tell my grandmother to STFU lol. I tried telling her I wasn’t okay with her sharing that information but it didn’t phase her at all. I’m seriously going to lose it if I hear one more time that I’m being stupid or making a huge mistake. I don’t need the negativity when I’m this close to surgery.

Hi! I had my surgery last Thursday (6/16) and I was also a breastfeeding mom! I am just going to tell you my experience, but I do not want you to get discouraged at all!! The hospital staff was awesome and they gave me a bracelet to show everyone I was breastfeeding and all the doctors took that into consideration but they told me that I needed to at least wait until 24 hours to feed my baby before it was considered "safe". So I did the old "pump and dump". I am going to be honest with you ... once I went to the clear liquid diet post op, my milk completely dried up in a day and a half. I am talking DRIED UP. I had a normal supply, was able to feed my 7.5 month old and have leftover. My body was just too weak and had nothing to support the milk supply. I didn't fight to keep the milk up because I was afraid that the calories I was burning to try and produce the milk and the calories I was taking in (next to nothing) were going to make me even weaker than I already was. I am just being honest.. HOPEFULLY you will have a different experience! What I did do before my surgery was started ramping up my supply so I have a couple months in the freezer! Maybe that is an option. Whatever happens, you got this!!

    Approval!!

Just got approved for gastric sleeve and no need to take classes. Will find out my date tomorrow. Only took insurance 4 days for approval. Are most dates being scheduled 4-6 weeks out from approval? Did some of you get scheduled less than that?

Sit down jobs. Oh no!!! HELP

Get yourself one of those small under desk exercise "bikes" or "steppers", if you really are strapped to the desk for that long, there are also plenty of other things you can do to get some exercise in! Just googled "Desk exercises" or "chair exercises" https://draxe.com/exercise-to-do-at-your-desk/ https://greatist.com/fitness/deskercise-33-ways-exercise-work

Most meds are safe while nursing, bring it up with your team. They should know your situation beforehand bc they can choose safer medications to give you. This could allow you to not have to dump at all. Example: for nausea zofran is better than phenergan if you are nursing. Definately bring your pump. Hospitals have them, but not outside of OB. They could track one down for you, but if the nurses are busy it could take a long time. Some surgical groups want you to be done nursing b4 surgery bc your body will be in starvation mode. That being said, baby is eating other food too and not relying on you for total nutrition so it might be ok. I totally get baby led weaning, it is what I did. One decided to be done at 15 months, the other at 18 months. I started the surgical process as soon as I was done nursing. Even if they make you wait it shouldn't be too long. Unless you plan on nursing until preschool, but that would be another issue for another forum. Lol 😄
