    IT HAPPENED!!!!

So I have been fairly quiet on the message board but I have learned a lot by reading all of the different posts here. so today was the day, I'm in my room now following my Sleeve surgery and I couldn't be happier, a new chapter has stared in my life! my story starts back in September of 2017 where I had some bad liver results in my blood work, so we followed up with three month follow up and my numbers had tripled from the bad results that they already were at and prompted a comment from my GP that changed my life. She told me that if I continued on the trend I was doing that within 12 to 18 months I would be looking at a liver transplant in worse. It was my wake up call. for 15 years I had been promising I would get back into shape after being a state level rugby player in high school and earning my second degree black belt in taekwondo, I had certainly let myself slide. On Jan 15th I weighed in at 305.6 lbs with a BMI of 44.5. I worked my butt of, literally, and today I weighed in for surgery at 230.0 lbs! And I feel great, coaching rugby again, even runnng with the kids I coach, running! So now the second phase begins, my ideal weight I'm told is 154 so my goal is 160/165 so that when I get the little rebound I can level out at about 175/180. so sleeve is complete, fixed a hiatal hernia and I'm up walking, downing my water, all is well in my world right now and the future is looking bright. I have already stopped my diabetes Meds, stopped my cholesterol meds and looks like I'm going to go home with no blood pressure meds after cutting the dose in half already. So thankful for my wake up call and then the opportunity to get this done!

It's def weird, I felt very weird getting total knee replacement - having bones cut and metal parts. That you can feel at least lol, but poof 85% of your stomach, it's like David Cooperfield did a 'slight of hand' trick with a black tablecloth. Presto!

This is a bit weird but here goes. I'm having trouble believing my stomach is now a sleeve. I mean logically I know i've had this operation. I went to the hospital, there are scars etc. But something in my head can't process the idea that a big chunk of my stomach is gone. I can drink a lot of fluids and I'm often hungry, so maybe this has to do with it. I'm not sure. Anyone felt the same before? Any ideas?

    5 week stall

This could be a case of you losing body fat and not weight. Which happens more often than people pay attention to. Your water intake needs to be higher, I can bet your sodium intake is through the roof and you are retaining water like a dam. You **REALLY** need to start doing your own prep, Restaurants nutritional information is notoriously wrong, always WAY under what it really is. Frozen pre-preped meals are great for on the go and pinch situations but *SHOULD NOT* be your first line go to... again, sodium and lots of other things are WAY TOO HIGH! It's great you are trying to track your intake. And you say you work out, but. Is your caloric burn higher than your caloric intake? So... You need to almost double your water intake. Ensure you are working out for at least 60 mins a day (Not including anything you do at work) stop with the take out / frozen foods and start prepping your own meals. Start taking chewable or drinkable fiber daily, sounds like you aren't even close to getting your daily required fiber intake. And lastly *STOP WORRYING ABOUT YOUR WEIGHT* Weight is only 1 number in this whole equation. Your body fat % can drop and you still not lose weight. I'm down .8% body fat over the last week and I haven't lost a pound. Stay focused, do not give up.

    Keto after sleeve

i do low carb 50g or less daily but i don't do keto because the protein level is to restrictive for my taste. if you can meet your marco's and get your micro nutrients from those levels i don't see a problem. surgeons don't like anything that is not down the middle good for all cause they don't have time for one on one care so all the programs are designed to fit the avg. and cause the least problems. track carefully and get regular blood panels and be prepared to stop if any issues come up in your blood work. good luck and enjoy

Ok, this surgeon needs to stop taking about nutrition and leave that to the nutritionists (granted I know I'm not one, but I've done enough research into these things to know that what I'm talking about is true, plus I've talked to my Nutritionist about this stuff as well) Surgeons are great at surgery, but would you discuss the chemical make-up of the gasoline you are using in your car, with your mechanic? No, you'd want to talk to someone that specialized in fuels. Surgeons are Mechanics, Nutritionists are fuel specialists. Sure you don't need *THE* most expensive protein, but not all proteins are created equal, and using store brand... you are more than likely not getting all the Amino Acids and BCAA's that you should (or could) be. Plus, store brand stuff tends to have lower quality, less refined proteins which can lead to tolerance issues. Clearly to each their own, but paying a little more for a high quality protein *IS* going to be beneficial. Hell, not even every protein metabolizes the same. This is why I'm taking Casein at night and Whey in the morning. Casein is a much slower uptake protein and helps with muscle recovery specifically overnight while you are sleeping. Whey is a faster update protein and is used during the day for muscle and energy support. Having the proper AA's and BCAA's is pretty important.
