Hello Everyone-I frequently visit this site for inspiration and encouragement. I am 5 week’s post-op today. I am ecstatic that I am sleeved. Lately though, I see a lot of posts about people gaining back what they lost and more. That is so discouraging to me. I know my sleeve is a tool. I know that my new way of eating is for life. The sleeve helps so much with portion control. My question is...do you eventually lose the restriction you feel while eating? I don’t want to lose that feeling of being satiated with just a small amount of food? In my nutrition classes prior to surgery, the rules were stressed over and over. Eat your protein first (at least 60 to 75 grams), no drinking with meals, stop drinking fluids 30 min before and no drinking 30 minutes after meals, 64 ounces or more of water per day (still working to meet this goal), exercise and vitamins. I am sticking to this now and working on my mindset to commit lifelong to this. My motivation for this is that the sleeve will allow me to eat less and succeed. Why do so many regain? Is there no hope to keeping the weight off permanently?

    Nine months post Gastric sleeve

Track with a free app, yes it's annoying but just do it. Use Baritastic or myfitnesspal or whichever one you will consistently use. Protein first, then vegetables, then allowed starch. Try just 3 meals and one snack - no grazing. Water, water, water. You can do it. Good luck!

It’s been a while since I’ve posted on this app. I just want to say to everyone post wls, you are successful. Take this journey and make it your own. Be selfish. Put yourself and your health first. Hold yourself accountable and trust the process. Surgery doesn’t make the emotional eating goes away. It doesn’t make it bad to eat those things that aren’t healthy. I fell into that trap of thinking I was exempt and could slide by. But I got myself together and I began to focus on healthy living. I hope this picture inspires you to go forth and become a more healthier you. Take advantage of this new lease on life. Envision how you want your journey to be and make it happen. I am 3 weeks post op today and I am terrified that my stomach will stretch out again too. I am afraid that I won't know it is happening. Sent from my SM-G950U1 using BariatricPal mobile app

Congrats on your success! Had my GBS on 5/15. No sickness, pain, nausea for me. Either. Down about 40 lbs since first meeting surgeon in April. Sent from my SM-G935V using BariatricPal mobile app

You'd think so... but you don't want to lose mobility while gaining muscle mass. You can end up losing mobility if you work out too much and don't stretch, since muscle building happens due to damage to the muscle (micro tears) you can actually reduce your mobility if you continue to build and not stretch. Stretching without building *might* cause the slack issue to increase, overall you just don't want to end up "too tight".

Ok, this surgeon needs to stop taking about nutrition and leave that to the nutritionists (granted I know I'm not one, but I've done enough research into these things to know that what I'm talking about is true, plus I've talked to my Nutritionist about this stuff as well) Surgeons are great at surgery, but would you discuss the chemical make-up of the gasoline you are using in your car, with your mechanic? No, you'd want to talk to someone that specialized in fuels. Surgeons are Mechanics, Nutritionists are fuel specialists. Sure you don't need *THE* most expensive protein, but not all proteins are created equal, and using store brand... you are more than likely not getting all the Amino Acids and BCAA's that you should (or could) be. Plus, store brand stuff tends to have lower quality, less refined proteins which can lead to tolerance issues. Clearly to each their own, but paying a little more for a high quality protein *IS* going to be beneficial. Hell, not even every protein metabolizes the same. This is why I'm taking Casein at night and Whey in the morning. Casein is a much slower uptake protein and helps with muscle recovery specifically overnight while you are sleeping. Whey is a faster update protein and is used during the day for muscle and energy support. Having the proper AA's and BCAA's is pretty important.
