Thank you both! Right now, I'm on Bariatric Advantage for my pre-op diet, and it seems to be doing very well giving me energy and keeping me satisfied. It's easy enough to add cold water and powder to a shaker bottle and not even need a blender, so that's what I'll probably keep doing just for the sake of ease. I'll look more at protein shakes and bars, especially as I get closer to August.

Generally after surgery, you will be placed on a weight restriction. But if you are a couple months post-op, that restriction should be lifted by that time. Walking in the marching band should be good exercise. For the first several months you will have dietary restrictions. You will need to consume protein shakes. I blended my own from protein powder (Muscle Milk Light), but protein shakes can be bought premixed. After several months, I transitioned into using protein bars. In your case it might be a little too soon to transition to protein bars. Check with your surgeon's office. It wasn't until the 3rd or 4th month that my nutritionist recommended them. Your stomach may still need a little extra time. A protein bar is probably too dense at this point. I used Quest protein bars. These bars were good in that they had high protein, minimal sugar and also contained fiber. They also came in a lot of different flavors. Protein bars are good when you are on the go and can't drag along a blender in order to mix a protein shake. A Quest protein bar contains 220 calories and provides 21 grams of protein. A Muscle Milk Light protein shake [2 scoops of powder in a 16 ounce glass] contains 210 calories and provides 25 grams of protein. So they are comparable.

    My first big challenge

I have my big first test tomorrow. A memorial day family picnic with all of the goodies, burgers, hot dogs, bratwurst...etc. I always help run the grilles, but I plan to be strong. I am now on soft foods as of today! I will most likely eat a few deviled eggs or I may take some steamed shrimp and have a few of them and leave it at that. This is the new normal. Good luck and stay strong!

    Weight Gain

If you don't (track your food on an app like MFP) -- start doing it. Set a calorie target, set macro targets, and see what works. My pre-op diet was 1,200 kcals, 3 meals plus one snack, and I loved it. It would be useful to know what your starting weight and height were.

    A Chicken Stir Fry Favorite

I love easy meals that are crowd pleasers. Here's my daughter's favorite. Boneless skinless chicken breasts. (I snip them into bit sized pieces with kitchen sheers straight into the pan out of the package..super quick and I don't have a raw chicken cutting board to bleach afterward. You can clip any gross parts back into the package and throw it away without raw chicken juice loose in your kitchen) Brown the chicken breasts bites in olive oil. Season with Montreal Steak Seasoning Original (I know...it's chicken...but trust me, you'll love this) Chop up one large green pepper, add to stir fry Chop up one medium sweet onion, add to stir fry Chop 8 ounces of fresh mushrooms. add to stir fry Chop one small zucchini 6 inches by 1 inch long....cut in half lengthwise and cut into slices. Chop one small yellow squash...same size as zucchini...cut in half lengthwise and cut into slices. Add zuchinni and squash to stir fry Add more Montreal Steak Seasonings to the veggies. Before I start making this, I start some brown rice in the rice cooker. I serve it over about a quarter cup of cooked brown rice. Rice is optional, but I like it better with a little rice. Super simple and my family loves this one. You can also cut everything up, and put it in a storage container to cook that evening....or throw in a cooler to take with you camping or to your brother in law's barbecue, so there's a healthy option. Throw a cast iron skillet on the fire, and you're in business. Easy Peasy. Have also had good luck putting this in tin foil pouches and throwing them right on the fire.

Since the original post etc went bye bye let me give you one from my own life Late Husband: You don't appreciate having,a good man. Me: I would if I had one, I just know I would. He liked to belittle me for my size and he was 3 inches taller and 35 lbs heavier , only ,thing small about him was his mind. But he firmly seemed to believe he was 185 lb like he was in high school. Sad isn't it, he came from a long line of chubby-haters, cut them out of my life after he died. Life is too short to spend mine being treated that way, took it for too long as it was. I'm a fine human being, truth is I've always been eligible for Mensa so why let them treat me like I'm the village simpleton? Thanks everybody for letting me rage, I feel MUCH better. WTF DID MY HUSBAND JUST SAY?

I dont know what the original post was but if he said it was the easy way out - he is dead wrong. After my surgery I looked at my husband after vomiting violently right after having surgery on my stomach and told my husband "This is so hard - nobody ever tell me this is the easy way out cause this is the hardest thing I have ever had to go through." They don't get it if they have not been through it. I mean my husband would not say that but I would say that my husband doesnt totally get it either cause it was not his body experiencing the pain. Sorry you had a bad night with the hubby.
