    Big milestone today!

Woke up this morning and did my daily weigh-in and was excited (and relieved) to finally be under 200lbs! I've been bouncing around the 200 mark for over a week. Weight is now 199.6...just barely in there, but I'll take it! lol. Getting below 200 was my first major goal since having surgery on Jan. 11 (down from 243 day of surgery). I've also gone from a 38-40 in pants size, down to a 34 inch waist. Really glad I had this surgery!

BMI under 35 on Surgery Date

I believe they did you RA as one of my co-morbidities. I also have diabetes type 2 and sleep apnea and NAFLD. I was approved in a day once the doc's office submitted all the paper work! Good luck! I can't wait to be healthy again!

    5 weeks post op

I'm 5 weeks post op and Feeling great so far! I'm down 22 lbs since surgery and total 39lbs since the start of my pre op diet. I went from 232 to currently 193! I'm learning which foods i can eat and thing i can no longer tolerate or no longer like. I drink mostly water and milk i haven't found any drinks that i really like. All the sugar free drinks don't sit well since surgery. How are you other April sleevers doing?

    5 weeks post op

I’m 5 weeks post op too. I feel pretty good except I get a little fatigued faster than before surgery. I’m 20lbs down since surgery. 32lbs since my pre-op diet. Started at 192 and currently 160. I do get scared that I’m stretching out my pouch. It seems I always eat until I have discomfort in my stomach. Trying to learn to eat slower

    Gardening

I think St. Paul is in zone 4b, correct? That being said, you will likely be harvesting at that point. I wouldn't plan on pushing it, but you will be guided by your surgeon and how you feel. Maybe that friend that drives you can assist you in any weeding or whatnot that needs to be done for a while? I am also an avid gardener, and it was killing me to not get out there and putter around. I had to enlist the help of my husband to move the 1.5 cubic foot bags of dirt for me, but I have been able to do everything else at 6 weeks post-sleeve. I am 8 weeks post sleeve now.

I think everyone goes through this. But at the end of the day....Sadly, what it comes down to....is being more afraid of parting ways with your life, your health, your mobility, your ability to participate in the lives of the people you love. I get thinking that it's not that bad yet... And I totally understand the idea of....I did this well with diet, why have the surgery? Look at statistics. Research this question: What percentage of people keep weight off with diet and exercise alone compared to bariatric surgery? It's not a magic bullet. You can still regain. You might not make goal. But statistically? You will lose more weight, and you will keep more off permanently....with weight loss surgery. It's your best hope. It gives you the best odds. It's a safe surgery. You can do this.

Some second thoughts are natural but science suggests that although you may lose the weight it'll come back on with interest. I'm the same age as you and 5'10", started at 317.5lb and now 2.5 wks post op am down to 277. I was on three BP meds, one has gone and the rest are reduced, now BP is 111/70 so will reduce more soon, my suspected (but not diagnosed) sleep apnea appears to have gone as I'm sleeping much better and actually feel refreshed when I wake. My back/ankle/knee pain is pretty much away. In short it's the best thing I've ever done for myself and probably will be for you too. I can honestly say I've not been hungry since the op and whilst I enjoy eating nice flavours I can take or leave food and I would say my pre-op relationship with food was very similar to yours! You won't regret it, keep us posted!

BMI under 35 on Surgery Date

I'm the same! I had my orientation at Kaiser a little over 2 weeks ago, where they told us to start on the pre-op diet. I had a BMI of 35 -- I'm 5'4" with a SW of 215. I've already lost 12 pounds, which drops me down to a BMI of 34. I have my first meeting with the surgeon tomorrow... I'm hoping to schedule surgery for July. If I keep up the weigh loss, I have to imagine I'll be at least at a 33 by then. Thankfully, I'm told that Kaiser goes by the orientation weight, so it shouldn't matter. If anything, I want my body to be as healthy as possible by the time I have surgery in order to reduce complications. But I'll also see what the surgeon says tomorrow when I meet him!

1 year 5 months after Bypass

I had to wait a year after surgery and be the same weight for 6 months and my gastric surgeon helped. He is actually doing the stomach part and I found a plastic surgeon willing to submit insurance for the breast and he will do it at the same surgery as my stomach so only one hospital stay! You just have to find the right plastic surgeon. I went to 6 before I found one willing to work with insurance

Some of my surgery incisions are infected (I was told I was at increased risk for infection since I'm diabetic). I got to the doctor in the early stages so its nothing major, but I'm waiting on the cultures to find out which antibiotic is most appropriate to treat the infection. I should hear from the doc's office tomorrow. In the meantime, I have no desire to eat (surgery was two weeks ago) and find myself preferring to drink my protein. Is that normal?
