Discuss your concerns with your doctor. They'll be able to talk you through it better than online resources, you'll see a lot of people talking about "bougie size" but honestly just ask the surgeon - not about ordering a specific stomach size, but about what your actual concerns are. From your question it sounds like you either don't want much restriction or you're concerned about losing too much? If you're concerned about your ability to stick to an eating plan even when overdoing it will make you sick, then that's something you also might want to talk to a mental health professional about. As many have said, this isn't magic. If you're concerned about losing the ability to eat a lot of food, then best to address that head-on now, rather than post-op with a lump of chicken stuck in your throat.

    2 days Post-op

I had mine the same day! I was told for the next 2 weeks- it is supposed to be pourable liquid consistency. I have been doing my protein shakes, SF jello, SF ice pops, SF pudding, unsweetened applesauce, thinned greek yogurt and just added some cream soups and broth. I am aiming for 60g of protein today. They told me to worry about water first and then my protein.

    Driving

When discharged, I was advised not to drive for at least three days.

    Driving

It depends on how long it takes you to wean yourself off of the narcotic pain medicines. I choose not to take any pain medication after I left the recovery room so I could drive almost from the time I left the hospital.

    Saturday 259 am

It's 2:59 am, awoken by a burning sensation of my esophagus and stomach pain; my mind goes to ”leak!” I am 5 days out. My incisions look great. I have no fevers, and my appetite is good. I also have had no trouble drinking 64 oz of liquids. I don't want to become dehydrated so I made it my mission to improve every day by keeping myself aware through a journal. I monitor my medication, sleeping patterns, exercise, body temp, and liquid intake. It's been rather easy. I should be grateful. I was expecting everything to be much worse, I think this where my leak fears comes to play. I find myself dwelling on every minor discomfort, involuntary muscle movements, tingle, itch, and heartbeat as an indicator of a possible leak. I find myself googling for symptoms, causes of a leak at night; debating whether I should contact my surgeon. Fearing. I would know if I had a leak right? Do surgeons run a test after the surgery? Any of you dealt with this leak fear? If so, how did you manage it?

    Surgery Eve

Happy to report that everything went well with surgery! I did struggle a little bit in recovery with low blood pressures and they were concerned I might be bleeding internally, but things perked back up after a few hours and IV fluids. Very little pain fortunately. Walking is very helpful. I’ve started my fluid challenge and am doing really well getting the fluids down. Need to work on breathing into the spirometer; that has been tougher. All in all I’m feeling very good. Hope everyone else who is having surgery now is feeling the same!

#1 - Don't waste time beating up on yourself. You have MAINTAINED a loss of 111 pounds. #2 - Get back to basics, log all your food, measure your water, 30-30-30, protein then veggies, then fruit, then carbs #3 - Take a break from processed foods and watch things that trigger you to overeat. For me, carbs make me crave more (and stupider choice) carbs. But you know what sets you off. #4 - No alcohol or sweet drinks It's really about getting back to what worked in the first place. I'm no expert on getting back on the wagon after surgery, but I've failed enough diet plans over the last 45 years to know what the reset button looks like. And, definitely, ask for support when you need it!

No, it's not. It's a good question. I had RNY and it took me pretty much a full 5 days before I took a dump.

    I feel like a failure

Wow,...you have a serious plate full of responsibilities there! Munchkins are a lot of work...and being a sharp student on top of it...takes an amazing amount of energy. And it's so easy to get spread too thin and get wiped out by everything that needs to get done when the kids are small. So been there:) Please don't be down on yourself. You're pulling up and you're taking action....that is awesome! You should feel proud of that. Just keep trying every day. That's all anyone can ask of you. Do your best. Speaking of proud....3.8gpa smartypants...that's a terrific accomplishment! On top of running after kiddos and working on some special needs....that's a lot. I think you need to have a heart to heart with your partner, and get some help so you can have more time to take care of yourself. Put some of those skinny family members to work helping out. LOL:) Nothing I'm saying here is much help...but know that most of us reading this are pulling for you and get it. You're not alone.
