    Recovery Update

Thanks everyone! I’m doing okay....the surgeon showed up in my room at 6 am and said as soon as he looked at the ct, the infection was far too large to wait for surgery and he took a blade to it without anesthetic! It was super painful but drained 1000mL and have it packed right now and will continue to change the wound and monitor closely. WBC was 18.9 when checked in currently 17.9 so working on kicking this nasty infection. The abscess went so deep he couldn’t feel the end with the suction or with his fingers in the wound. It was pretty painful I’m glad to know this is the cause of my post op pain and not my rny. Currently changing the packed wound to see if he got it all or if they need to move forward with a different surgery.

    Post op diet help

I honestly think you're legit starving. If you asked me to eat: fruit juice milk (even lactose free--has sugar in it) I'd want to "cut off the head of the infidel and bring it to the king," I'd be so hangry. So big hugs and cudos to you for staying the course. The liquid diet is evil evil stuff. Each doc has their own brand of evil. But, you do just have to knuckle down and follow the plan. As bad as it is. It really helps to drink LOTS of water. Especially when hungry. I also found hot decaf tea helped tremendously. Also sugar free popsicles were somehow very soothing and filling. Maybe cuz they took a long time to eat? I agree with getting your mind doing something else. Binge watching Netflix was also a lifesaver as was walking--even if it's only 5 minutes while you're having a bad urge to eat. I swear the time will go by quickly! Hang in there!

    Recovery Update

And not to make anyone lose their breakfast or anything but it has now ruptured twice tonight! It was like a volcano of rancid smelling puss and wouldn’t stop....the nurses are great it was all over my gown socks bedding floor the wall! The one said in the twenty years she’s been here she’s never seen one rupture like this! Still a huge amount of fluid so still having surgery tomorrow. All I can think is thank god it didn’t happen at home bc my husband would have puked or passed out lol.

How terrible your surgeon didn’t seem to take your concerns seriously. He should be ashamed of himself. Hope you heal well and get better soon. Please keep us posted!

Southern, Please put in a call to your surgeon's office. it is always better to talk to them about any new increased or failing to improve pain. It will in most cases turn out to be nothing but the risk is not worth it. No matter the replies please just call and talk it thru with someone in the surgeons office and let them decide if it is routine or not. These first weeks are the most risky.

Kathy [emoji7]are you sure it's not:" it's a Journey, not a Race or Sprint". At least that's the way I've always heard it presented." You can be a mover and a groover when you no longer suck food up,like a Hoover!" I met with my dietitian yesterday and mentioned salads. She doesn't recommend them until 6 months! UGH!
