    Liquid diet

I’m on day 6 of my liquid diet. Surgery is May 7. It’s pretty difficult in my opinion but I do know it will be worth it.

Well I've been eating food since posting this and I'm relieved to report everything has been great! I'm finding it a big change to eat really slowly. I was never a fast eater but I need to slow it down to the point where the food is going cold! But that's a small inconvenience and I'm so relieved that so far I haven't had problems with anything I've eaten. It's shocking how little I can manage but that's the whole point I suppose! All in all it's going great. Xx

Well not the greatest start to my day, only down 1.5 pounds and missed the crossover from obese to overweight. So another week i guess. Well at least its down even if slower than i would like. Tuesday is nine full months and some days it feels like a blink and others like 9 years. got to get some coffee in me, to dam early in the morning for coherent thought. enjoy your weekend

    Post op diet help

I honestly think you're legit starving. If you asked me to eat: fruit juice milk (even lactose free--has sugar in it) I'd want to "cut off the head of the infidel and bring it to the king," I'd be so hangry. So big hugs and cudos to you for staying the course. The liquid diet is evil evil stuff. Each doc has their own brand of evil. But, you do just have to knuckle down and follow the plan. As bad as it is. It really helps to drink LOTS of water. Especially when hungry. I also found hot decaf tea helped tremendously. Also sugar free popsicles were somehow very soothing and filling. Maybe cuz they took a long time to eat? I agree with getting your mind doing something else. Binge watching Netflix was also a lifesaver as was walking--even if it's only 5 minutes while you're having a bad urge to eat. I swear the time will go by quickly! Hang in there!

@baribetty, please don't be scared, all of us are here for you, the veterans know what you're going through, they understand. I am still presurgical but I know what I will tell myself on that, okay. Well the day you have prayed and dream of so long is finally coming. Entertain no fears for you can rely on your surgeon and c surgical team and you know they will keep you safe and secure while you are in v their care. This the right time, your reasons for this step are your own but they are the right ones. You will go to sleep softly, when you awake you will awake with a smile for you have achieved something special in your life. Now is the time to begin your transition to the future, the hard work still continues. You were given a shiny new tool, now you must learn to use it wisely. This is the hardest yet rewarding thing you have even done. Your v tomorrow's start with that first step out of bed. You know you can do this, all your yesterday's lead up to this. Today is a gift, that's why it is called the present. One step starts it all, swing your feet over the edge of the bed, slowly stand up , get your balance and start out. The future is now yours. I have this already written on the file card I will use in June or July. For my day lies ahead also, I will make it and you Baribetty will too. Hugs. Frust8

I feel your pain. I was on my liquid diet during thanksgiving and there was food everywhere at work I had to avoid. Then to top it off I had to forgo thanksgiving dinner due to the same reason. Good for you for sticking to it though. You are proving to yourself that you can stick to it, and that is the right mindset to have prior to surgery. In a few months you will be able to have reasonable bites of a few favorites again, perhaps just prepared in a more healthy way. Stay strong. You’ve got this!

I’m in Boston, MA. I didn’t have a pre-op diet. My surgeon says that the diets are used to shrink the liver, but in our program we were required to lose a certain amount of weight in the 4-6 months prior to surgery (which also shrinks the liver). They said they prefer to not have a pre-op diet because it’s too much pressure on patients to have to lose a specific amount of weight in the two weeks before surgery, and surgery is stressful enough. I definitely appreciate it.
