Wanted to share since I’m hoping other people have gone through this or to encourage and show others what a great decision this was. Went away for the week with the family and I lost 3 pounds!!!! [emoji50][emoji50] that has NEVER happened to me before, even when I was on a “diet.” I’m about 3 months post-op and although I tried to eat healthy and brought protein shakes, there were of course many times when I ate other things like pizza, ice cream, etc. My new little pouch is amazing because it helped me to eat a lot less and not over-indulge in food that I would’ve in the past. I won’t lie, it has been a struggle - from making the decision to have this surgery, getting used to not drinking before and after meals, eating a little bit of food and so on and so on. But times like this makes me realize what a great decision I made for myself and that I can still have a good time and eat right. So definitely a win win!!!

    Honeymoon Period

I’m 11 months post op, I’m losing 1-5 pounds a week steadily. I’m not trying. I just follow the healthy foods and foods high in protein. I eat 2-3 oz. I’m losing more now than I did early on. From what I’ve read the honeymoon period happens differently for different folks but is within the first year of dieting. Though, I’ve heard of some three years out where nothing has changed, they lost steadily the entire way there, and continue to keep it off without trying. The last twenty pounds for me will be all on my own, so my doc tells me. I’m prepared. And, I think the honeymoon period is going to vary from person to person and be largely dependent on how closely one follows the diet and works out.

    First consult super nervous.

Sounds like you are starting out smoothly and soundly. I will be watching for updates to your story. The only thing better than reading others stories will be finishing my own. Sleeved 3/28..

Congrats DeDawn making it through your surgery. I believe you are on the right path by exercising and taking walks to regain your strength and improve your conditioning that will support your weight loss down the road. I believe exercise and increased activity maximize the results of this surgery and your surgeon will be most likely be pleased to hear that you are doing so. Good Luck to you and welcome to the forum.

    Pre-Op Calorie Intake

Dieting and weight loss slow metabolism, that is why diet and exercise for long term weight loss only works for 5% of people. Your metabolism probably has taken a hit over the years as you have tried dieting. For detailed info Google "Biggest Loser Study". The study was published in 2016 and the results have been repeated in other studies. Subsequent studies found that while diet and exercise PERMANENTLY lowers your metabolism, gastric bypass does NOT. One year after gastric bypass the body's metabolism is back to normal. Sleeve works too, but the biggest research trials have been with bypass patients. You may find that surgery will reset your metabolism completely.

    Water pills

I have been on the water pill for 2 days and have done fine on it. Lost 6lbs in water so far. But my BP has actually gone up more not down. It's the diastolic number that is being an issue. When I do any type of exertion like just getting up to go to the bathroom or switching clothes from washer to dryer. Even just standing up or sitting down my diastolic goes into the 100s. Then when laying down in down to the 90's/60's. I called my cardiologist to tell her the numbers and she added 2.5 mg of lisinipril on top of the water pill. I'm hoping that, that will work. I have been so scared about it all which has me stressing. Which is not going to make my BP any better. Thank you so much for asking how I am doing Sent from my SM-G960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Honeymoon Period

The no hunger part last 5 weeks for me. The greatest weight loss was during the first 8 weeks. I have lost 8-10 pounds per month every month from 8 weeks on so far (knocks on wood)

    Over eating before surgery

Look this is your golden shot. Don't fu*k it up. Right? The time for secretive behavior is gone. You know? Put it ALL out on the table cuz at NO other time, will you have a team of professionals at your beck and call whose sole mission is to help you lose the weight. You know? So take EVERY advantage of them and work your keester off. Most of us can lose and lose big. NBD. So what. But most of us 95%+ are incapable of keeping it off long term Some of that is our own fault (we revert to old habits and go back to eating the same old crap that brought us to the super morbidly obese ball in the first place). But other parts are beyond our control (hormones et al). This surgery will give us a better shot at long term weight loss success. But it isn't magical. You eat the wrong things you regain. And it's worse than you can possibly imagine to get it off again at that point. So don't regain. Back to the original statement: This is your golden shot. Don't be a screw up. Don't fu*k it up. Determine that you are emotionally ready to change your relationship with food FOREVS!
