Just thought I would share a bit of humor. First and foremost remember, "No one can make you feel inferior without your consent". I am 9 months out of surgery, and have now lost 230 lbs. and losing. It is quite a change. So I get home from work on evening and step out of my car and a lady in our neighborhood, whom I have known from a distance for 20 years, is walking her dog as she does everyday. She stops in front of my house and looks at me and this is how the conversation goes...... HER - Are you the same person? The same person who has lived here for years? ME - Yes it's me, how are you doing? HER - YOU HAVE LOST SO MUCH WEIGHT! YOU WERE SO BIG! ME - Yes, thank you, I have lost quite a bit of weight. HER - (throwing her arms out as if she was being nailed to a cross) BUT YOU WERE SO BIG! YOU WERE HUGE! And now you look great. How much have you lost? ME - 228 lbs. HER - THAT IS AMAZING! (she had such an excited look on your face) How did you do it? ME - I had surgery. HER - Oh! (and her face deflated, and she looked down her nose with disapproval) These people think we have cheated because we had surgery, or took the easy way out. Little do they know. LOL! I swear I get that reaction so many times when I mention surgery. I am not one to lie, but I think this is going to start being my response to that question we all get of "how did you do it?" My Answer Will Be - I drink a Coke and have chocolate everyday, and eat pasta at least three times a week. At least the look on their faces will be better than that look of disapproval.

With due respect to the OP about veering off post (but the OP was me, so β€œgo ahead, sweetie, permission granted”) I AM OFFICIALLY NO LONGER OBESE !!! Yeeee-f’ing-haaaaaaaa I know, here on the side of the page it says 30 but that is just rounding - the calculator says 29.8 and that is just beautiful!

I am 17 months post-op, and still follow a keto way of eating. I have target macros and I keep everything in that range every day (less than 2000 calories, less than 25g of carbs, around 150g of protein). I don't eat sugar, pasta, bread, or rice and I don't drink soda (or really anything carbonated). I have eaten like this throughout my journey, and it is just what I do now. I have made food fuel, and I eat to live only. It has made my life a lot better. I can eat a little bit more at a time now (but I still don't exceed 3oz of dense protein at one sitting), but since I control what I consume so carefully, it hasn't made a difference.

Can I just say how much I LOVE salad, from a position last year where I hated it and considered it rather a sinful waste of a good eating opportunity. Now clearly while I was unconscious and under the knife, one of you successfully petitioned God to change the recipe of lettuce and tomatoes to include sweetener, and red bell pepper to get rid of that disgusting bitter backtaste it used to have, and mayonnaise so that a teaspoon goes a hugely long way and it no longer requires 1/4 cup to ale a serving palatable. I thank you for your successful partitions to the almighty. I am interested in other changes we are experiencing in our food tastes - so that I can try them out!

    Tip for getting in water

I was sleeved on 2/28 and have found that drinking out of a travel coffee mug helps me get a lot of liquids in while maintaining the "sip" factor. Hope this helps someone out there!

It didn't with me @Sosewsue61, but I've been on and off them since I was 6mos old...the cellular damage and insulin resistance were already well set-up.

Honestly? You need to forget almost "all" you "think" you know about medicine. Which will be a tall order. You need to not rationalize "the kind" of surgery you think you need and really lean on your doc to give you the most effective surgery that will help prevent regain given you steroid use and probably your ass-load (non-medical jargon) of insulin resistance, and go with that. Cuz I do not believe as a lay person hearing your story, that a VSG will be sufficient to put your metabolic issues into remission. If it were me, and it is...cuz I have degenerative disc disease, bilateral SI joint erosion and bilateral hip bursitis requiring cortisone injections + pre-diabetic Syndrome X + BC (remission) + Asthma with steroid inhalers + HBP + pericardial effusion + a couple of other dandies like GERD, etc, and the very least I would settle for was an RNY and I was tempted to go for DS. I'm not tearin' up the boards with post-surgery weight loss, but it is slow and steady so far and I keep chipping away at the weight very slowly, pound by pound, inch by inch. And that's with eating a very low carb (about 20g net carbs) diet daily. I wish you the best and welcome to the boards.

    Sleep! Post-Op Day 2

I had my surgery on 2/27 and was released from the hospital this afternoon 3/1. In the hospital I loss sleep due to the nurses poking me every 2-3 hours. However now that I'm home, I can't figure out how to sleep in my flat bed. Should I sleep in the chair? I'm having a rough start. Where did everyone sleep on their 1st night home????
