A gal who used to post on here framed it best for me... like me (and you) she had lost “on her own” several time and always gained if back. She called it weight MAINTENANCE surgery. It allowed her to keep it off. It’s done the same for me, for four and a half years. There’s a lot of biochemistry involved in who becomes obese and why it’s hard to lose and keep it off. Ghrelin, leptin, gut microbiome, seratonin.... sometimes the surgery is also a reset of some of those systems and can change the “thermostat” of where your body wants to be. It did for me. Do you listen to podcasts at all? This one is quite eye opening— https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/weight-loss-surgery-podcast-bariatric-lap-band-rygb/id662443588?mt=2&i=1000373855300

Yes indeed - although hot. Record breaking temperatures, all across the country. Not so good for the farmers, but even our Southern (coldest, snow-in-winter) cities and towns are pushing 80. The sea down there - usually about 55 this time of year - right now is pushing 70. Glorious... yet worrying. But that said, recuperating in the sun is hard to fault!

Adjusting to fluids on post op

I gained 10 pounds from surgery and lost within days. And now another 7 pounds. I’m 6 days post op.

I am doing pretty well. I still have gas pain and that is what bothers me the most. I haven't thrown up even once and I only had some mild nausea after surgery. I have done a good job of tracking liquids and following my diet. So far I have lost 9lbs. I am still taking it slow and listening to my body. Things feel different. I don't exactly ever feel hungry, I also don't seem to experience the traditional feeling of fullness. I never used to burp, ever. Now I keep having little burps every time I eat or drink. It's not to bad and I figure it will get a little better over time. Overall I am doing well and looking forward to my new life. Sent from my SM-G930V using BariatricPal mobile app

6 week check - all great

I am interested in your stats if you are willing to share. Also the timeline that your doctor shared with you if you don’t mind.

Food tip: my local Walgreens didn’t carry cream of wheat for me to eat. After two weeks of liquid only diet, cream of wheat actually sounds good! But since they didn’t have it my friend had the idea of looking into baby food isle. I was willing to eat anything so long I wasn’t drinking more fluids. They had a dry rice flour powder where you just add water. So I’m eating that now. I was able to cheat a bit on a handful of Chex mix. I made sure it dissolved totally in my mouth before swallowing. It was nice to experience a crunch in my mouth. I wouldn’t recommend anything more than a handful the first week post op and be sure it’s completely dissolved before swallowing.
