2 weeks post op and eating?
harley 80 and one other reacted to RickM for a post in a topic
Not at all; your weight loss may be lumpy for the first few weeks as your body adjusts to the caloric deficit, but these are common things irrespective the dietary progression. Our program was on soft foods as tolerated along with the liquids and mushies from the hospital on out, and I doubt that my first month's loss would have been any different had I been on strictly liquids, other than from any difference in the calories (I was eating a lot better, and healthier, at a month than most. but was still close to a third of the way to goal at that point. People often/usually have a bit of a stall around 2-3 weeks out and frequently associated that with a change in their dietary progression that usually happens around the same time, but that happens to most everyone even if there was no change in diet - it's just part of the body adapting to living on a lot less. Enjoy the ride - our doc has found that generally patients do better as they move on to real food. -

Unhappy with A Lighter Me (ALM) & Dr. Elias Ortiz
dcopps reacted to groovycath for a post in a topic
I had RNY on 1/6/18. Something happened that caused me to have massive drainage. That night I had 4 things of plasma. Over the next 2 days, I had 4 blood transfusions. I understand my number was 6.5 and really didn't change much. I was kept in the hospital the entire time- never went to hotel. I had drain removed on 1/11 and sent home. The fluid is still coming out the drain hole- i soak about 10 maxi pads a day. The staff at Mi Doctor Hospital was kind and took care of me. The asst. doctor checked in on a regular basis , but I felt he couldn't tell me the whole story. DR. Ortiz came just 3 times, despite my asking to speak with him. I do not feel he was very forthcoming. I still don't understand what happened to make me bleed so much. I have a sister who is a doctor and she is appalled. After 2 transfusions, I would have been back in the OR to fix the bleed. there would have been accountability. I know that I chose to go to Mexico once my new insurance said all bariatric surgery was excluded. What I am so disappointed in is the lack of clear communication by the doctor. I would, therefore, not recommend this company and esp. Dr. Ortiz. I was aware that I would have to pay for "extra" services and I ended up paying close to $1500 for the blood. I do now run the risk of a long recovery (past the 2 weeks I had planned). I also run the risk of infection and the pain of so much leakage. -

Hi I’m new!

Hi. I joined recently too. My sleeve surgery was 12/28. Your weight loss is impressive - congratulations. I've followed the diets and only lost 11 pounds so far. A bit of a bummer but I keep reminding myself it's just the beginning. Wishing you continued success. -

Does your country have (Danone) YoPro, a high protein yoghurt? 15g to 17g of protein in a 160g tub of (VERY) low-fat yoghurt. What about high protein beer-drinkers' cheese? 22% protein. -
1 pointI am 24 days out and I am eating all kinds of stuff I didn't think I would be able to eat this quickly. I eat very small amounts, but I have been eating things like stuffed vegetarian grape leaves, deli turkey meat (Boar's Head Reduced Sodium is the best) rolled up with a thin piece of swiss, low fat string cheese, and even went to a vegan restaurant and had a piece of flatbread pizza with cashew cheese, roasted red peppers, and seitan sausage (it was the best thing I have eaten since surgery, and caused 0 pain!). Two weeks out I was eating lots of cottage cheese, mashed sweet potato, Amy's Organic lentil and vegetable soups (not pureed), but also some well-chewed nuts. I probably could have started deli meat then too but I was nervous. As far as slowing your weight loss, mine did slow down around the two week mark for about 4 days, but now it is picking up again. Like the poster above said, I think it is just your body adjusting. I eat about 300-500 calories a day now and I feel awesome. Best of luck and remember to eat slow and chew well whenever trying anything new! I got cocky recently with all my success and had my first piece of food get stuck from not chewing well enough. That sucked!

No caffeine? Ever?
Newme17 reacted to mylighthouse for a post in a topic
No, you will not have to give up caffeine FOREVER. I followed my nutritionist's instructions to a T. Started with cutting all caffeine out at 2 weeks propior to sleeve surgery. I love the taste of coffee, so I drank a couple cups a day of decaf. Then, in the first 3 months after surgery, I continued with my decaf coffee. I was allowed to start regular coffee at month 4. I did. Two cups a day in the several months following month 4 post op. I make sure I drink a lot of water during the day and evening, that is important through this whole post op journey, but especially when you start drinking caffeine again. I may get flack for this, but I drink 2 pots of regular coffee a day now, and have been doing so for a couple of months. I am 14 months post op and still losing with 140 pounds lost so far. -
1 pointI had a sleeve from Dr Ortiz in 2013. It was the best thing I ever did for myself. My life changed for the better. I am 70 so I don't need to be a size 2 but I am very lucky that I can eat what I want and maintain a reasonable weight. My numbers are all excellent and I like the way I look. My experience at OCC was very good. My sister and brother in law are both physicians and went there. We are all great

Failing already
MissSimpson reacted to orionburn for a post in a topic
So much this! If you have to do a liquid pre-op diet you can try doing what I did. I knew it was going to be tough so I tried to prep myself as much as possible. When I was a month away I started doing a liquid lunch at work. Some times it was just chicken bullion cube in hot water and a few saltine crackers. Even though it was difficult at first I knew that I would be getting food at dinner and taught me some tricks on fighting head hunger (and real hunger) during the day. Not saying my method was the best or right for you, but it helped me. Don't beat yourself up for failings. It's like people that beat themselves up when trying to quit smoking. Yes it sucks when you break a streak of going without a smoke, but we need to give ourselves credit when we go from a pack a day to having a single smoke after a week. This is much more mental than we think. Don't give up! -

I have a leak!
ABawdyMermaid reacted to Road Runner for a post in a topic
I had my revision from lap band to a bypass on Dec. 12th In Mexico, The surgery went fine and I’ve had some normal issues, nausea, left pain, and tired, nothing horrible. But going into the third week when I started puréed foods the nausea started getting really bad and my back hurt so much I literally couldn’t catch my breath. I went to my Dr who had agreed to do my follow up I the states and got a prescription for pain and nausea, he also said I needed a CT scan, which I scheduled for 5 days later. I didn’t feel it was an emergency, and the Dr said “as a precaution “ so I wasn’t in a hut. Well, Yesterday I get a phone call to go to the hospital ASAP I had a leak! My phone call came st 2:30 and by 6:00 I was in the operating room. I was so scared, the Dr came right out and said that this is life or death, I went in for exploratory laproscopic with the understanding that he may have to open me up to find the leak. I was very fortunate that his first try was where the leak was. He flushed out the area and removed the abscess, and drained 85cc of pus from the area. He said I was very lucky it had been contained to one area. He put a feeding tube in the part of the stomach not bypassed and I will be on a feeding tube for at least 4 weeks. I can’t even drink water so that all the infection can heal. I also saw an infection control dr. And he put me on 3 different IV antibiotics for 3 weeks minimum. I’m in ICU now, and a little confused if I will need to stay in the hospital or will be able to have home nursing. It’s too soon to tell. But he said I could be on the hospital for up to a month. I’m really confused, I’m on a morphine pump which isn’t helping. The Dr said leaks happen and it has nothing to do with the skill of the surgeon or following directions, which I have to a T. But leaks are a very big deal! I thought the leak would be repaired and then things go bank to normal. I never thought I would be the 1.5% to develop a leak. I’m strong and usually bounce back quickly, but this has me on my butt! And I have a very long recovery road ahead. I’m so scared the infection may spread and poison my body and I’ll die. I guess I just needed to rant a little and make sure everyone understands you could be part of the 1 percent.
