    Onderland!!

Here is my before pics and a few afters. The second photo was taken on Sept. 9 and I was about 225 lbs. The first photo was Exactly 7 months to the day of surgery (new years eve) and I have lost 109 lbs total so far and made it into the Onederland. The journey remains challenging but every day is a new day to do things the right way and I take it one day at a time. I'm thankful for the opportunity to have a new lease and outlook on life! on Sent from my LG-TP450 using BariatricPal mobile app

I got sleeved on the 7th rather than the 6th. I was sleeved at a BMI of 30.6, I think I had previously said I was 31.6 but I was mistaken. I was told to stick mostly to water for my first week, so I have had 2 portions of home made chicken bone and vegetable broth each day and water throughout the week. The last few days my stomach has started to growl and churn, but otherwise its been pretty effortless, if not a chore to remember to drink my fluids and broth. I am feeling pretty weak tbh, My dog has bad back legs and I have to carry her around a lot and this has become a challenge. I get exhausted doing things I used to do effortlessly. Last night I made two soups for the first week of full liquid stage, Ive tried to cram as much nutrition in to them as possible. Both are made from home made chicken bone and vegetable stock and grilled chicken thighs, one is carrot and squash and the other is mushroom. They have been frozen in to individual containers. I am lazy when it comes to cooking, so its easier for me to make a weeks supply in one evening than to cook every day. This morning I started my transition to full liquids with a protein shake (powder + water) I am not particularly looking forward to starting full liquids because I dont know what to expect and I dont feel a drive to eat anything right now. I also have some greek yogurt, but keep forgetting to eat it. I dont have a feeling of fullness at all, If I drink too much I can get a pain, but otherwise im just measuring out my broth portions and hoping its enough. So that is pretty much how the first week has been for me, Hopefully I am on the right track.

    Gallbladder removed during surgery

I had my porcelain gallbladder removed, a hernia repaired and the sleeve surgery. I went into the hospital on a Tuesday and was release on a Thursday afternoon. My roommate left after the surgery and I was in my private room. He came back the next day to check on how I was doing as he thought I would be coming home on Wednesday according to the Dr. However the nurses saw I was not doing well and told the Dr I needed another day to get my pain under control and for them to get me up out of bed. Thursday morning I called my roommate as I was ready to get out of the hospital. He thought I would go right to my bed but I sat in my recliner for many hours watching Tv and drinking my first protein shake. Four weeks later I was back to work. I took an extra week as I wanted to be able to eat food when I started and not be on just liquids. I had a lot of shoulder gas pains but had no incision pains or complications.

    Hi I’m new!

Hi. I joined recently too. My sleeve surgery was 12/28. Your weight loss is impressive - congratulations. I've followed the diets and only lost 11 pounds so far. A bit of a bummer but I keep reminding myself it's just the beginning. Wishing you continued success.

Does your country have (Danone) YoPro, a high protein yoghurt? 15g to 17g of protein in a 160g tub of (VERY) low-fat yoghurt. What about high protein beer-drinkers' cheese? 22% protein.

    No caffeine? Ever?

No, you will not have to give up caffeine FOREVER. I followed my nutritionist's instructions to a T. Started with cutting all caffeine out at 2 weeks propior to sleeve surgery. I love the taste of coffee, so I drank a couple cups a day of decaf. Then, in the first 3 months after surgery, I continued with my decaf coffee. I was allowed to start regular coffee at month 4. I did. Two cups a day in the several months following month 4 post op. I make sure I drink a lot of water during the day and evening, that is important through this whole post op journey, but especially when you start drinking caffeine again. I may get flack for this, but I drink 2 pots of regular coffee a day now, and have been doing so for a couple of months. I am 14 months post op and still losing with 140 pounds lost so far.

    Failing already

So much this! If you have to do a liquid pre-op diet you can try doing what I did. I knew it was going to be tough so I tried to prep myself as much as possible. When I was a month away I started doing a liquid lunch at work. Some times it was just chicken bullion cube in hot water and a few saltine crackers. Even though it was difficult at first I knew that I would be getting food at dinner and taught me some tricks on fighting head hunger (and real hunger) during the day. Not saying my method was the best or right for you, but it helped me. Don't beat yourself up for failings. It's like people that beat themselves up when trying to quit smoking. Yes it sucks when you break a streak of going without a smoke, but we need to give ourselves credit when we go from a pack a day to having a single smoke after a week. This is much more mental than we think. Don't give up!
