This is the first day in a long time I have felt something close to "normal" since having undergoing Panniculectomy and Abdominoplasty 18 days ago. Hopefully I have hit my turning point.

Wouldn't it be cool if there was one solid answer about the cause of obesity, and one surefire absolute fix that worked for everyone? Someday...

Yes my BMI was much higher than yours and my surgeon didn't require it either. He just said to work on eating much smaller meals and not to worry about wanting a big meal as I wouldn't want it anymore...also said to start getting used to eating very slow but no pre op diet other than the NUT's advice I was following on my diet plan for 6 months...oh and to have your "last meal" or whatever you really wanted to have a few days to a week out, not the night before... good luck to you

    Christmas Round-Up

I'm having surgery next week. I got some unflavored protein powders, Bariatric Advantage chewable vitamins, vitamin patches and comfy clothes for the days after surgery. Plus a few gift cards for new clothes when I need them.

    Pre Op diet disaster

I just read something really inspirational from another member who posted about trusting the rational self that had to jump through all the hoops to get here. You knew what you were doing and I think it's important to remember the reasons why you're embarking on this journey. It won't always be easy, but it also won't always be hard once you've learned how to 'drive' your new stomach :). Cheating on the pre-op diet is almost a given with our population, which is why the sleeve is so useful for us. This tool will teach you very quickly what cheating does (i.e. feeling icky if you eat something you shouldn't). Like another user said earlier in this thread, right now cheating doesn't do anything, but cheat on your sleeve and it will certainly teach you a lesson aversion therapy was and is a real thing! Wishing you all the strength and good vibes to get through this challenge.

I'd had my Lap-Band 10 years when I had it removed last year. It had become too tight even without the fluid. I'd maintained 60 of my 80 lb loss for 8 years, but if I'm honest, I was miserable with that thing. Instead of being disappointed when I was told it needed to be removed, I was relieved. I don't think I would have come to that decision myself as I was so afraid of gaining it back. Predictably, in less than a year, I'd put on 50lbs despite eating relatively little and upping my exercise frequency. I had a mini-gastric bypass almost 3 months ago and I'm really pleased so far with how things are going. The weight isn't flying off, but the loss is steady (I've lost 45 of the 70lbs I'd like to lose). I can eat more than with the band (about a cup), so I don't feel ripped off all the time. I seldom vomit and when I get full, it's gradual and feels natural. I tolerate most foods, so my diet is way more balanced and varied. I do experience dumping which is unpleasant, but I'm learning its triggers (sugar, high GI carbs etc) and am avoiding those foods. As I was an insulin resistant "sugar enthusiast," this is not necessarily a bad thing. I'm developing some aversions to sweets and therefore, don't really feel all that tempted or deprived (even at Christmas!). All in all, I think you will be really happy with your choice and only regret not doing it in the first place. Good luck!

Mine was smooth sailing. One thing that i encountered that was a surprise was dumping. conventional thinking says sugar=dumping. No problem, just avoid sugar, right?...Well in my case speed/volume causes dumping. I dumped on one big gulp of my protein shake. did it twice before I figured out the trigger. that was almost a year ago. now when I have a shake (like premier with espresso) I never gulp, I don't rush...small sips only .. have not dumped since. I also do not dump with sugar...I can have a cookie and be fine. now I have not tried binge eating sugar...I bet that would be problematic, but i'm usually fine with just a taste.

    My journey

Don’t worry about jumping on the scales just yet! We’ve came a long way so it’s best to start new fresh and healthy habits from day zero of surgery! In your journal entries mark down everything you’ve consumed and how long it took! Don’t get distracted. Take small bites & don’t rush it! Wait 30 minutes after you’ve ate before you start sipping anything! You’ll be most comfortable in a recliner for first week or two! Sit at an angle which ever side had the drain hole on. Gently and carefully sit back all the way and don’t be afraid to ask for assistance!
