    Struggling

I'm just shy of 3 months out. 10/217 was my surgery day. I did pretty well for the first 8 weeks or so. For the last two weeks or so, I seem to be losing and gaining the same one or two pounds. I know I weigh too often. I need to stop doing that. I do feel like I am shrinking. My clothing is almost falling off of me and everyone is commenting on my weight loss. I'm just not seeing in on the scale. Would love to hear from anyone who has worked through this issue. I am trying to remain positive and focus on my protein and water.

It is 9 days since my RNY procedure. (A bit unusual because I had open surgery and also had a gastric band removed.) After the surgery? Well, it iwa a brutal surgery because they used a rib spreader to give maximum easy access, and an incision from rib center down to tummy button. The wound felt ok, but my chest felt like I had been kicked in the chest by a horse. (My family were bemused as I inadvertently txted them all that it felt like I had been licked in the chest by a horse, and they couldn’t understand if that was good or bad!) The joy of open surgery - no gas pain! Slept rest of day 1 and much of day 2. Self pump morphine allowed a dose every 5 mins, but needed way less. Walked corridor 4 times on day 2. Day 3 30ml (medicine cup) or water an hour. Diarrhoea begins - daily once or twice. Don’t trust a fart!. Last morphine dose 10am. Short walk every 2 hours. Day 4 60ml hourly in the morning, 90ml afternoon. Lear broth for dinner with a tablespoon of jelly for after. Slightly longer walk. Day 5 Tablespoon of purée fish for lunch, over 30mins - and when it goes down, off home (to a big city hotel). Hooray. Nice, peaceful home, where no one wakes me up every three hours to take my blood pressure! Sleeping a bit uncomfortable, need a pillow ‘under’ my tummy to sleep on my side. Now I am on day 9. Diarrhoea stopped day 7 and quite normal now. I am going for gentle walks maybe 300 yards/metres but they do quickly tire me out. Can sleep on my side with near comfort now. Eating: 3 teaspoons yoghurt for breakfast, slow - 15-20 mins. 3 teaspoons cottage cheese with pesto/mild chilli/flavour for lunch, also over 15-20 mins. Protein soup from BariatricPal pal for dinner - 8oz over 1/2-3/4 hour. In between, water (20% Apple juice cos I hate water) constantly, and 1/4 chai latte in a cafe today made me feel like a million dollars! About 250 -300 calories, 30-40g protein and I am up to 6 cups fluid today. Not enough hours to get in All the food and the liquid! Eating speed is hard to judge - I was told to expect a lump in my chest if I ate too much or too fast, but don’t get that. So just trying to be sensible - if I AM too fast I get mild sharp tummy pain about an hour later. No regrets so far - really manageable surgery. Not half as rough as a hysterectomy!! No weighing yet - till I go home on Boxing Day...

    Band to Bypass yesterday

First time posting here- Had my revision from lap band to RNY yesterday. It’s not as bad as I had built up in my head. Took a while for anesthesia to wear off. I had ice chips first, then water, and a sugar free popsicle last night. Everything is going down ok. The gas pain is the worst part but it’s tolerable. Walking helps. Hoping to go home today. The hospital bed is uncomfortable and people come in and out of my room constantly, so I’m looking forward to a good night sleep. The actual incision sites are not very painful. Feels like I did a bunch of sit ups. Peeing feels a little weird. Who knew we used so many abdominal muscles to pee. I also have cotton mouth, which I’m hoping gets better. Here’s to a new me for the new year.

I am beyond excited! This summer I will be returning to the talented and sweet Dr Carmina Cardenas. I returned to her office last week for removal of my stitches and General check up. I brought up my interest in pursuing a breast lift and implant with arm lift procedures. She was very honest and told me I had to wait a certain amount of time before going under the knife again. So I am abiding by her professional recommendation and going through the wait. This summer will be my second of three planned surgeries. My first was a lower body lift. It has been a heck of a recovery but certainly doable. I am feeling better with each day that passes. I have regained a lot of my strength. There’s still a tiny area in my hip and in the crevice of my bottom that needs to close. My belly, fleur de lis incision, and back have all healed really nicely. I am applying merderma daily and am looking into those silicon healing strips to side with scar healing. I feel so blessed to get to continue my journey with Dr C and her talented team. I felt so well taken care of by everyone when I was down in MX. I am planning on ending my procedures with a thigh lift, when I get the courage to do it. That procedure scares me the most for some reason, but I need it so bad. I have such bad thigh skin laxity it’s so unsightly and even embarrassing. I have a while for that yet though. I am concentrating on healing further from my body lift and enjoying Christmas with my family. Happy holidays to all!

It sounds like you're about to sabotage yourself again. What if, this time, you broke that pattern & achieved a different result?

Best option = none. If you don't drink and it's not important to you....maybe just abstain. If it is something you enjoy and don't want to give up....here's some advice from google: The best form of alcohol, from a calorie perspective, are the classic spirits. We’re talking about tequila, rum, vodka, whiskey, and gin. One ounce of any of those classic spirits contains around 64 calories, most of which come from the alcohol content. So, maybe a small margarita, or any of these spirits mixed with low calorie diet juices? Good luck.

Ok, how long to go down a trouser size?

I started at a 18/20 now I am a 16 bottom and I can comfortably fit into most size 14 or L/XL tops (depending on the boob room) I noticed my pants getting bigger about 3 weeks out 4 weeks was that weird time where I was falling out of my 18’s but squeezing into a 16. I am 8 weeks out and comfortably in a 16. Hopefully in another 6/8 weeks I’ll be comfortably in a 14, maybe even a 12 since I can work out now.
