    Surgery today!

I'm going in for my surgery in 24 mins!!! I'm excited and nervous and just ready. It's a mini gastric bypass and not the roux n y. But being a newish (1997) procedure there aren't as many people doing this one. I have a headache and didn't sleep well but soon I will be asleep and when I wake up i will be on my new adventure. Week 3 post-op, want to eat!

I'm only one week post op and feeling the same! I don't have genuine hunger but the desire to eat is so overwhelming. I still have to be a wife and mom and cooking/being around the smell of food is brutal. It's all a mental game. I just try to focus on the fact that the benefits of this "new" life will far exceed the deliciousness of food. How much longer until you are on regular food? Stay strong! Anyone who says surgery is the easy way out has NO idea how crazy this ride is! Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app

Watch a version of your op on Youtube. Maybe see an episode or two of "Fat Doctor" or "Weight Loss Ward" or "The Obesity Myth" ... you will glean a great deal if you want to learn.

    Four Month Surgi-versary

Yup, I've made it to the four-month point. About 105 lbs down since the start, about 65 since surgery on August 4. I can confirm that it does get better each week! I feel like I hit a turning point in terms of getting closer to feeling "normal." I'm still cautiously introducing new foods and fine tuning my sense of fullness so I stop before I get uncomfortable (or sick.) I learned a good lesson this past week about why you must eat all your proteins first: I was having a meeting in a cafe and was hungry for lunch so I ordered a kale salad. It was my first time having raw kale, with regular dressing on the side, but I was thrilled when I was able to eat it, no problem. However, I remained incredibly full for the rest of the day, and unable to eat anything else. I guess it just took a looooooonnnnngggg time to digest. I also have healed other physical issues well enough to take a fitness class. When I was about 5 years old, I was kicked out of a ballet class because I was too fat (this was well before the days when everyone had a chance to participate!). So the first class I took now was a Barre Conditioning. It felt like a little redemption. I may be a ballerina yet!!

    5 days after surgery

I am 3 days post -op and I know I am not getting as much fluids in as I am suppose to. However, every day it seems to get better. I eat a little more jello...I can finally eat a whole popsicle and tomorrow I will try bone broth. The hospital broth tasted like ramen noodle sauce packets and did not agree with me.

Going on 15 months post op

Hi everyone! I haven't been on here for awhile! I hope everyone finds this website as usfl as I did and still do! its been almost 15 months since my Surgery. My starting weight was 465 lbs and as of this morning I am down to 222lbs exactly that's a 243 weight loss total. I hit a stall for Weeks!! so I started walking more and added more food to my diet (healthy food of course) once I started that the weight started coming off again (PHHHEW) I am 42 lbs away from my original goal weight and let me tell you.. THIS FEELS AMAZING!!!! my life has completely changed for the better.. im more active and im living the life I always wanted for me and my daughter if anyone is deciding to get this surgery I will always tell you GO FOR IT!!! I had fears but the happiness of feeling free and "normal" outweighs that fear I had before deciding to have this surgery. it literally saved my life! good luck to those who are starting their journey and keep it up! I will always say this; This was the best decision I ever made and I do not regret anything!!!!!!

    Non-bariatric comments - vent

I just need to vent for a moment. Nearly everyone I've told about this surgery thinks they have some way to relate. What is it with people? If they've dieted, they think they know the same issues, or had another surgery, or ate baby food. Has anyone else had this? I'm glad I limited who I've told. This is annoying.[emoji36]
