Had a really cool moment this weekend

Naysayers gonna naysay... thats what they do. And have they ever taken on a challenge like the one you are about to? I doubt it. So.... they have nothing to offer on the topic. Your post tells me you have done 2 things exactly right. Researched your surgery and raised and excellent daughter. Keep going the way you are going. You are going to do great!

ESG date is Tues Nov 21!

Day 4 and I feel like I'm fully back to normal, all my meds will finish today as well (just anti-nausea left). I started liquid protein this morning, using Premier Protein Chocolate flavor from Sam's club. Still staying with 1-2 ounces in sips and then wait 15 minutes. My diet has me on liquid protein for 2 weeks and I will alternate protein drink the first 30 minutes of the hour and water the 2nd 30 minutes of the hour. I plan to do some walking with my wife this afternoon to start back towards a routine exercise regime. One other tip my Dr. provided that I was grateful for, he suggested that the first few days it is easier for your stomach to adjust if you remain upright rather than laying down. He explained gas accumulation was less in the vertical positions than when laying horizontally. This included sleeping sitting up through the night. I set up camp on a couch or recliner for the first two nights and it worked well for me. I was up to walk around 1-2x in the night to relieve gas pain, it took less than a minute of walking each time to feel normal again. Last night was the first night back in bed and I used a couple of extra pillows to sleep at an angle. No gas pain last night! That was awesome!! AmyAlexis, you said it right, getting better each day! Thanks to all for the support.

    Got Approved!

I’m so excited, my insurance approved in less than a day! My dream of being sleeved this year is coming true! I have a surgery date of December 20, a wonderful early Christmas present. I know for me it was important deductible wise to get surgery in this calendar year but I didn’t think it would happen.

Awesome advice, Berry. I think they talked about repeating the test a couple of months after surgery? I can't remember. I can't remember much of anything since starting this liquid diet. Yeesh. But I bet it's in my folder of info. I know everything changes as you go along and you need to eat fewer calories as your body mass goes down.

I have my sleeve 11/30 and my pre-op diet is: 14 days before surgery: High protein, low carb to help shrink liver. 7 days before surgery: 2 protein shakes a day and for dinner, a little baked chicken or fish and veggies 2 days before: Liquid diet

    Advice on what to expect

I had a sleeve, not RNY, at age 55 last year. I lost hair starting at month 4 but it started coming back around month 9. I have fairly thick hair so it wasn't noticeable. I have lots of excess skin - like catwoman7, but had my first plastics consult about two weeks ago. I'll likely have a panni and tummy tuck over the summer. The batwings, for me, are the worst. For a few months my face and neck looked really saggy, but that changed at about a year out. I look 15 years younger - no one believes I'm 56 now. I still have another 15 to go. Best of luck.

"lose as much weight as you can"

I'm at the point in my journey where all my "peers" have pretty much arrived at goal. I still have at least another 40lbs to drop to a normal BMI (I started out heavier than any of them). But, I'm not focusing on a specific #on the scale. I'm actually looking at my loose skin and calculating the sweet spot for maximal losses while retaining a hope of not needing plastics. At this moment, I've reached a relatively healthy weight (size 12). Any extra losses are icing. Plastics aren't icing, they are a step in the wrong direction (for me). So, I'll keep losing, for now, but BMI means pretty much nil in the grand scheme of things. As for probable regain.. yeah, pretty much everyone gains some. I'll take that into consideration as I near goal. Might shoot for an extra 10lbs off... but not at the risk of becoming airborn in a mild breeze...

I think it’s better not to overthink it. Choose a goal that seems realistic to you. It’s hard to predict what your body will do. Many people surpass their goal because they simply can’t eat more. You may find that to be the case. Or your body may resist and want to stay at a higher weight than you wanted. I think the important thing is to take it one day at a time and realize that while you can do your best some of it is just up to your body. A lot of people regain some weight or all their weight but a lot of people don’t. Try not to worry.
