Sorry you have to deal with this, that is quite a commute! Here's my thoughts for your questions: 1. Usually, you will stay in the hospital at least one night, often two. My doctor only did Tylenol 3 while I was in the hospital and no pain meds at all for home. It was totally fine. The only "pain" I had was the insane gas pressure! Would definitely recommend some Gas-X or similar. And yes, no NSAIDs for us anymore! 2. I was told my my doctor that patches don't work very well unless you're under 185 pounds. In addition to that, we're supposed to take a double daily dose, so I'm not sure how that would work with a patch. Two patches? At first I did mini multis since I couldn't swallow very much water (and I need that water to choke down a pill). Now I take my regular vitamins: myKind Prenatal Once-a-Day Multi (has the correct amount of iron -18 mg- so I don't need an extra pill) myKind Chewable D3 - 2,000 IU MOM's B-12 sublingual - 1,000 mcg (local health food store brand, but you can find them anywhere. Love the sublingual.) Nature's Dynamics gummy biotin

First I want to say that at 2 year currently I don’t consider myself a success because, losing weight is easy, maintaining is the hard part. I really hope that some people that have maintain for some years post here. Most of the posts from long term WLS patients are about their failures, regain and trying to “get back on the wagon”. We need more positive posts for people that are doing well and enjoying their post-op life. Hopefully this can be a resource for other people. I followed my post-op plan to the letter almost for the first 6 months. I did not heavily experiment, I did not push limits. I did not advance my food stages. This provided a mental reset that completely changed my outlook and relationship with food. The mental reset from following the food stages and changing my relationship with food in the first 6 months was the most valuable experience. I do not feel deprived. I found a way of eating that does not feel like a diet. I can eat food that I enjoy and I still really love and enjoy eating food. Food enriches my life, it doesn’t control my life. Weighing my Food Tracking my Food Weigh myself every morning, record it once a week Staying calorie aware and spending my daily calories like currency Planning for eating out. If I am going to eat out for dinner, I allot extra calories for dinner and cut back on my food earlier in the day. If I eat lunch out then I cut back on dinner. I exceed my initial goal for myself pretty rapidly (250) and I have gone further in my weight loss than I ever dreamed I could when I started this. All the benefits from being so close to a normal BMI motivate me to defend my weight loss diligently. I know the difference between being morbidly obese and just being overweight and being overweight is far more comfortable.

    Vitamins Post op

I just buy all my supplements directly from my doctors office. They sell the bariatric advantage stuff, and they sell them for cheaper than anywhere I could find online. I'm not a fan of their protein so I'll use something else going forward, but your surgeons office could be a good place to start

    Protein shakes

Hello I'm new here but I can give you some good advice on this. I'm vegetarian, have been having major nausea (7 weeks out of op) and my dietician thinks its protein related - we will see! I also have a lot of nausea associated with milk products and creamy consistencies. So it sent me on a field trip of sorts and I have some decent products that I've tried that you may like. This is an essay - sorry! But am passing on some advice from a professional and giving my taste buds a voice too. We have a hard time finding quality tasty food and taste is as important as quality to me. I'm Aussie so these are products over here but web search if you have a different location. Here they are: My favourite one is "Ultra Leaan Protein" (yes 2 'a's in Leaan :)) by "Cybrog" in the wild raspberry flavour. I add 3 scoops to my bottled water = 15gms of protein. This is really just like a cordial - close to a poweraid but maybe a little more artificial sweetener (I could do without some of that personally but its the best tasting overall product so far). The best thing about this is it contains the required amino acids too. It's expensive but worth it for me - 2 bottles of water with this a day = 30gms of extra protein. This was $79.95 AUD a tub of 60 scoops but I am sure I can find it cheaper elsewhere! (??) My Dietitian gave me a sample of "Formulate" Banana shake mix. Comes in a bottle - just add water (convenient). This has a whopping 35 gms of protein per small bottle. BUT don't expect a shake taste, its watery and really like a banana water flavour. It is pleasant enough though. The down side is that it took me half a day to get down with my sippy sippy status! By then the seeds it contains swelled and at the end I was swallowing expanded chia seeds. Not a big deal but for us guys something to remember. Maybe worth halving before adding water and doing in 2 lots? (this was a free sample, don't know the cost) I also took it upon myself to try the "Isopure" glass bottles of pre-made 'cordial'. These tasted really crappy but if you can get down one 600ml (actually 591mls! such an odd amount) bottle in small amounts over the day you can nab 40gms of extra protein. It's zero carb too zero sugar. $5.95 a bottle I picked all these up from the Wexford pharmacy at Murdoch St. John of God hospital complex Western Australia. They have loads of other products too. Other than this, some complete proteins was recommended so not just baked beans but baked beans on toast /muffin when able is a complete protein with protien and amino acids. Eggs are a complete protein as well. Of course if you are a meat eater, no probs. Best of luck!!

    Anyone Watching This Is Us?

I did NOT like the way Kate was portrayed the first season. It felt like her storyline was to be fat and maybe a little grief, but nothing more. I'm liking her much more this season. Hate her boyfriend though, hate the story of their courtship, and don't think they have any chemistry at all. Aside from that, though, I love the show! Randall and his wife are the best TV couple ever. Adorable, totally believable chemistry, they play off one another seamlessly.

It was something made up on the Internet to sell products/services. People falsely claim that going back to consuming liquids only for 5 days will shrink your pouch, which is medically impossible.

    Destined to be fat?

If you have say "please don't scream" then you know exactly what you are doing wrong. So fix it. It's that simple. Follow your diet and let your yes mean yes and no mean no when it comes to food. Don't make it complicated. Sent from my SM-G935V using BariatricPal mobile app
