    Is this crazy?

    I go in for my sleeve on the 16th I started out on this journey back in March while I had to do a 6 mo of supervised diet it just all seem like it was so far away having to jump thru all the hoops but when I finished it all it I still didn't feel like it was happening it wasn't until I got a call from my surgeon saying he wanted to talk but this was not a pre-surgery visit that he wanted to make sure that this is what I wanted to do. I told him I've come this far to turn back now that the risk out weight doing nothing or the risk of relapses would leave me in worst shape and older considering I just turn 35 last month a wife and 3 kids . This is all gonna seem crazy as I still wonder if this is the right thing to do but at the end of the day look at how this will benefit your life

    How about NO vitamins?!

    It depends upon the surgery. For RNY gastric bypass patients and Duodenal Switch patients taking vitamin supplements is an absolute must.

    How about NO vitamins?!

    Some people absorb vitamins, minerals and other nutrients more optimally than others. Simply put, I need my supplements because I don't absorb them well from food. Due to hypothyroidism, I'm prone to multiple deficiencies (zinc, vitamins A, B12 and D, iron, etc). I've been deficient in thiamine (vitamin B1) 1 year post-op and required an injection, so I supplement with a vitamin B complex in addition to whatever else I take. I also had deficiencies in vitamins A and D prior to weight loss surgery, so I take those. I'm black. Vitamin D deficiency runs rampant in the black community. Our people need triple the sun exposure time to produce enough vitamin D naturally due to darker skin pigmentation, so I'll supplement with it for life. Blacks also have magnesium deficiency more often than those from other racial/ethnic backgrounds. The moral of the story is that some of us need supplements to avoid nutritional deficiencies.

    its now been 4.5 years since I was sleeved. my high weight was 323 lbs. my goal weight was low 180's. I did reach goal weight but over the years I realized that my desired goal weight was too low for me. now for the last 2 years ive steadily maintained a weight in the mid 190's and that appears to be where im supposed to be and im happy with that weight. today 10/1/17 I weight 195 lbs. I exercise 3-4 times a week and my choice of exercise is running. I will also be running the 2018 boston marathon and im so excited about being able to run this historic race! im running it for the jimmy v foundation for cancer research and ive committed to raising $6000 which is no easy task. if any of you have ever been affected by this terrible illness feel free to click the link after this post and make a 100% tax deductible donation to the jimmy v foundation for cancer research. every dollar donated goes to research. you will be supporting my run and a cause that affects everyone as everyone knows someone that has been affected by cancer. as far as my eating, I still have to be very mindful of what I put in my mouth.     I have found some hummus chips that aren't too bad, with the amount that you are able to eat...Of course you shouldn't go overboard!

    New clothes

    The minute my old clothes fell off my hips and couldn't stay up--even with a belt, is when I bought new clothes. I'm still trying to figure out what my new size is. Lol All of my bigger sizes, I've donated. All of them. Hw-273 Sw-226 CW-160 GW-130 Size- 4 or 6, Small in sweats. Large in shirts... Could be a medium. depends on how it's cut or made.     How about NO vitamins?!

    Get the levels tested. Go for every 6 months, and then see what it is like after 3 years out. Until this year, I always had Vit A, E, some of the B's tested. I have known issues, those are the ones I keep on top of, but ones that have stayed consistently well within the normal range I don't have checked. I have several other GI issues that require the bloodwork and sometimes infusions, along with others I have certain vitamin shots, etc.

    Any regrets?

    My sleeve was this past Monday. I currently have the "what did I do " thoughts. Watching my family eat regular food while I sip my protein shake down is very difficult. I know this will pass soon Sent from my SM-G950U using BariatricPal mobile app
