    How to help husband

Hello all! I've missed being on here. What are some things people have done to support and encourage you when you were struggling? I'm looking for ways to help my beloved who is struggling right now. My husband is overweight and trying to loose weight. He is doing the right things but the scale is not moving and clothing is not getting any looser. (A story many of us are familiar with!) He doesn't come close to qualifying for surgery but said he would do it if he could. I help him by: encouraging him to exercise in a way he enjoys, try to do active things together when possible and work to help him with meals/macros/portion control (I do all the cooking and shopping right now.). He is getting in a lot of good exercise and eating to have a good calorie deficit. I've tried telling him that I am really proud of him and he is doing the right things but he kinda doesn't believe it/want to hear it. To be fair I didn't enjoy hearing that when I was so overweight and doing the right things too and the scale wasn't moving. I had RNY March 2016 and have lost about 150 pounds. I don't think this is a reactionary, now he feels overweight because I've lost the weight. He has been struggling with his weight the last 5 or 6 years. Any ideas on how to support would be most welcome. Thanks!

I am bipolar and was approved for my sleeve surgery in 2014 and then again for my bypass revision this year. I think they mainly care that you are stable and medication compliant, and that you aren't in crisis or neglecting treatment for mental health issues that would derail your success with WLS. I was able to use my own psychiatrist to do my insurance approval, and I believe he just wrote a letter explaining that I am in treatment and that he didn't have any concerns with me having the surgery. It's up to the insurance company what kind of clearance they will accept, so maybe call them directly to get the requirements. I also discussed potential malabsorption issues with my psychiatrist and came up with a plan for liquid medication immediately following surgery. My biggest obstacle was having a hard time with the liquid lithium that I was prescribed. It made me queasy and sometimes vomit, and so for a few weeks I wasn't getting enough medication. Luckily, it didn't seem to adversely affect my mood but I would recommend talking to your doctor about these sorts of things and having a plan for getting your medications to work.

    Hungry

I am 10 days post op and I am always hungry. The first 4 days I didn't even think about food, and now I'm always hungry. I drink my water and my protein shakes too. Is there ANYTHING I can eat at this stage that won't hurt me. Oh and I had the gastric sleevr not lap band.

    Hair loss

I'm 3 months out and mine started at 2 months. I've lost 75 lbs in 3 months. Dr said it was normal when you lose a lot of weight. It's so thin now I wear it in a bun to hide how thin it is. I lose a huge handful everyday. I'd rather be skinny and bald than fat though. I'll buy a wig if I have to. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using BariatricPal mobile app

Countdown to surgery Oct 24 7:30AM

WhooHoo! I'm scheduled for the 23rd as well! Want to be sleeve buddies? Sounds like you're set. Going to have to pick up some SF popsicles and SF pudding myself closer to the date otherwise the kids (and husband) will eat them all. Good Luck! Tasha

How much the gas pain sucks the first few days post op, and that I would still be hungry after surgery.

    vitamins?

I read a study on the vitamin patches that Unjury's scientists did that said that the vitamins they claim to deliver were not what tbe vitamin patches were capable of delivering.

I use Tespo Vitamins. You can buy them without buying the fancy dispenser. They are liquid, and they taste really good. liquid vitamins are typically pretty disgusting, but I love my Tespo vitamins. I use the combination of the women's Multivitamin, and the bariatric Vitamin. You can read more about them at https://gettespo.com/ Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
