    Help

Rouchang, I understand! My surgery was 3.5 year ago, I lost 80 and I'm back up 26. Tomorrow morning, I'm starting a 10-day "re-set" that I found online. Maybe we can encourage each other?

    Pre-op diet advise.

Here's what mine will be: 80-100g protein/daily, 60g carbohydrate, very very low fat (~1000cals/day) Pre-Op Diet (2 weeks prior to surgery) 1. Drink 4-5 (80-100g protein) servings of a liquid protein meal replacement* daily: Isopure Zero Carb Bariatric Advantage Bariatrix Essentials GNC Total Lean Shake 25 EAS Myoplex Lite Chike Unjury Jay Robb Premier Protein RTD Premier Protein RTD Clear *Supplement should contain at least 20g protein per serving in a 6-8oz serving. The first ingredient should say "Whey protein isolate" or "Soy protein isolate." 2. Drink 64+ ounces of sugar free fluids in addition to the above protein drinks: water Crystal Light or other flavored non-carbonated waters Sugar Free Jello Low Sodium Broth Sugar Free Popsicles Sample Day: 8am 1 serving protein meal replacement mixed with water or skim milk 9:30am 1 sugar free Jello (and 8oz water) 10:30am 1 serving protein meal replacement mixed with water or skim milk 12pm 1 sugar free popsicle (and 16oz water) 1pm 1 serving protein meal replacement mixed with water or skim milk 2:30pm 1c low sodium broth (and 8oz water) 3:30pm 1 serving protein meal replacement mixed with water or skim milk 5pm 1 sugar free Jello (and 16oz water) 6:30pm 1 serving protein meal replacement mixed with water or skim milk 8pm 1c low sodium broth (and 16oz water) But everyone's surgeon has a different plan, so PLEASE follow your own surgeon's plan for success! Good luck!

Nope...the surgeon repairs the hiatal hernia on the operating table at the same time he/she creates your gastric sleeve. A hiatal hernia repair will add 90 seconds to your total surgery time. I also had a hiatal hernia and it was repaired while I was sleeved.

    Steroids, obesity, and WLS

I know, you hear you're not supposed to combine low fat and low carb and low calorie (which it will be de facto) cuz it will make your thyroid tank. Ask your doc though. For me, I was still getting enough fat in the protein (I aim for 60-70g per day currently) and also eat some avocado. When I was eating around 1000cals/day, my fat was around 60g daily. At 800cals/day it was around 40g. It's hard to stay on the low carb wagon, but totally worth it not to balloon up with the steroids and deal with hunger/binging all the time. ((hugs))

WhooHoo! I'm scheduled for the 23rd as well! Want to be sleeve buddies? Sounds like you're set. Going to have to pick up some SF popsicles and SF pudding myself closer to the date otherwise the kids (and husband) will eat them all. Good Luck! Tasha

    Protein powder & fiber powder?

Hiya! So your surgeon/ bariatric nutritionist will probably give you a diet plan that they want you to follow, mine may be different. Mine had me do 4 protein shakes a day ( I only had 3 choices of shake too), all other fluids were separate. Of course you could mix your shake with crystal light or skim/ unsweetened almond milk though as long as it's approved. Some shakes like bariatricfusion have fiber in them (and tons of vitamins and minerals too), so he said there's no need to add unless I feel constipated. However other shakes do not, so to each drink to add 5g of fiber to each shake. I also had 1/2 cup of un-starchy veggies a day I was allowed (i added them to broth). If it is a pure liquid diet there is unflavored fiber powder you can use, food could keep your liver from shrinking, but of course you can ask your doc! My liquid diet has been going great I haven't cheated once and on day 4 I am no longer hungry since I pump myself full of fluids and my protein drinks.

    Stomach swelling post op?

After my RNY gastric bypass surgery, I do not recall my stomach swelling. I had some weight gain because they pumped your body full of fluids in the hospital. This weight gain took less than a week to go away. After surgery your body also produces a lot of gas. Walking helps with this condition. The blood thinner medicine that I took caused my body to bruise very easily. My body really looked like I had been in a boxing match because of the bruising. But after a month this went away.
