icky! Drug reactions can be nasty at times. I vomited all over the place with the first shot of morphine in the ER for my gall bladder. It killed the terrible pain but I got so dizzy and sweaty and up it all came. Lightweight ! Surgery is Tuesday and my son can pick me up but he has to work the next day. He and his brother will be back on Thursday/Friday so it looks like Im on my own for a day or so....

Bad breath and stalled weight loss

I just took a urine ketone test and its in the moderate-high range. I know the urine tests are the best way, but at least it gives me a general idea. Certainly explains the bad breath and makes me feel a little better about it.

    How to STOP losing?

Believe it or not your body will put the brakes on. Your appetite will increase somewhat (most likely) and if will happen. Usually it's more trouble to drop the last stubborn pounds than to stop losing. But yeah, if you need to you eat more calorie dense food--according to your eating plan. Could be nuts, nut butter, avocado, higher fat dairy, olive oil on your veggies... lots of options! And yes eating more frequently or "grazing" is an option... usually it's something to avoid because it can cause regain if you don't do t carefully (e.g. snacking on crackers or other simple carbohydrates) but if done judiciously and with a plan it can work IF continued loss is a problem. Drinking some calories--an added protein shake, again higher fat dairy--works too. But I assure you, stopping weight loss is rarely a problem. Usually it's the opposite. Most weight loss surgery patients lose 60-75% of their excess weight.

Hi, AmandaC86! I currently live in the Bronx. I am guilty of being an emotional eater too. Hang in there, we will get through these stressful times. It's a long journey, but worth it.

    How much can you eat?

Pureed foods is basically liquid. Liquids flow through our new stomachs really easy, that's part of why we are only allowed Pureed at this point. Don't test your stomach like that with the water experiment!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's not worth it!! If you are concerned you can eat too much...than don't eat that much. You will find out how much solids you can handle when you move on to that stage. Liquids just flow through, solids is where the real test will be. And, I'm saying this with love and support, stop eating 12 ozs of food just because you can. Period. You didn't go through this major life change just to turn around and eat too much. Stick to the 4-6 oz's. Even if you are physically capable of ingesting more liquid than that right now.

    How much can you eat?

Umm.. yeah... you do know that the only thing between you and certain death is a line of staples, right? Have you ever torn stapled papers apart? Not hard to do, right? How about lets start being cautious with your wounded tummy until it has time to heal. It takes between 6-8 weeks to form the first layer of scar tissue. Until that time, it's possible to create a leak at the staple line. That is why the postop dietary progression is usually 8-9 weeks long. Drink slowly, measure your purees.. keep it to 4oz. Just because you can consume more doesn't mean you should. When you get to solid protein, you'll feel the restriction.. but in the meantime do what you are supposed to do. Curiosity can kill, this early in the game.

I was banded in 09 but am having problems with it so I'm looking at the sleeve revision. I was losing before my initial appt but now my BMI is too low. So I have to weigh more at my next appt before insurance submittal. I plan to lift weights and build muscle before surgery and eat good things but as much as I want to try and maintain where I am at. That is of course unless the Dr. says losing after approval is OK.

    Free of Sugar Free

I don't do artificial sugar, I think it tastes like chemicals. I am okay with the taste of Stevia in my coffee but I use very little. I like the liquid Stevia drops from Trader Joe's because I can use about half the regular amount. A bottle is going to last me years. I can't do dairy since my WLS so I don't consume sugar in yogurt or pudding. When I want something sweet I eat something with real sugar, just a really small serving, like a fun size candy bar. It doesn't bother me at all.

    Free of Sugar Free

I too always had bad headaches with artificial sweeteners. Also learned years ago on the FDA website, that they're linked to causing symptoms of 90+ diseases..always hated putting that kind of thing in my body. Never liked the taste either. Tried stevia once, it's still up in my pantry. Call me an exception though, I don't do artificial. If I want sweet, I use honey or agave and regular creamer for me coffees. Gasps! 😱 Lol
