    Surgery completed 8/1/17

I was scheduled for Surgery August 1,i was super nervous and excited, i was so nervous i thought about canceling surgery, my family had came in town to support me, i knew i couldn't cancel, getting support from this site has helped tremendously, when you have support makes a big difference, surgery went quickly i had vsg/hernia repair, surgery lasted 45 minutes, i had alot of gas pain first day of surgery, i walked alot, that really helped,i couldnt sleep in bed, i slept sitting up in chair, im so happy i had surgery, the sky is the limit,i will definitely follow my nutritional guidelines, i will be a fool not too, Good Luck August Sleevers.. YES, this is what it is all about! ** Going into it, my only issue was being morbidly obese. I didn't have any health issues then or now.

I did not have any specific comorbities...I was "healthy" except for being morbidly obese. I knew it was just a matter of time before it my weight caught up with me. My surgeon said that because I didn't have a bunch of other health issues my recovery from surgery would be quick and easy. He was right...physically I feel great. Now I'm focused on making the life long changes to maximize the tool.

    Protein intake worries

Everyone here has great suggestions! I just wanted to say hang in there-- the first couple of weeks were SO HARD, and I was hating my protein shakes by the end. I didn't get enough protein in consistently until at least a month out, and it all worked out fine. Be gentle with yourself, keep sipping water, and recognize that you are doing great.

My weight loss has been officially noticed by the women I work with (from about 2 months post-op) and by my students, but not really from anyone else. Some of my students from 3-4 years back often don't recognise me at first, and do a double-take when they realise it's me. It is heartwarming to hear my students call me "slim" now, even though I'm not, as I'm still obese, and even if and when I get to a normal BMI I will still be considered big by Japanese standards (as I was when I first came here many years ago). The men I know haven't said anything to me unless I bring it up first.

    Gained 2 pounds!

You have to keep an honest account of what you are eating, even when you are eating poorly.

I guess when you are overweight you are kind of invisible, so now everyone is always commenting in person or in pictures on social media about how much weight I've lost, or how good I look. Just not used to it I suppose. The doctor did warn me, but it's kind of shocking.
