    Shame

It's ok to have all these emotions, then sort through them and realize that you are worthy of doing whatever you need or want to do in order to be healthy and happy. Be kind to yourself!

I am so sorry to hear of all that you are going through. First off, I need you to do the most important thing, forgive yourself and move on. If you feel like you are a failure you will be more likely to wallow and graze more. You have to just stand up, accept the bad eating and grazing of the past, dust yourself off and start again. I have had to do this many times. I was sleeved on 5/29/16 and am down 260 since surgery and 291 overall. I just had a bout of a few weeks after having my panniculectomy surgery and some stressful times where I was eating really bad. I was giving in to my cravings and not counting my calories. Maybe not everyone will slip but many people do. I feel the difference between those who regain their focus and those who don't is forgiving themselves. I came to the realization that I was self sabotaging myself, and even though I gained less than a pound I was on the path of regain. I just had to sit down with myself and say, I am not going back. I have come too far to ruin this now. I will never be that person again. Then I did some meal planning. I started weighing everything again and have tracked everything that goes in my mouth. I am keeping to a 1,200 calorie a day limit because that is what my surgeon recommends. I know this is hard, and you have had a lot of stressors in your life that would test even the strongest will power. You can come back from this, just take it one day at a time. If that's too much just one meal at a time. You can't change the past but you control the future. We are all here if you need us to vent to people who would understand or if you are looking for suggestions!

The thirst is the worst part for me. I would give a million dollars if I could just chug a giant Gatorade to extinguish it. The best thing I've found is Sugar Free popsicles. It's the only thing that gives me relief.

I had my sleeve in March at 65 years old. I also had no co-morbidities except obesity. All my pre-op testing was normal. However, in my opinion, and apparently my insurance company's opinion, that was enough for them to pay for the surgery. It was probably just a matter of time before my body started to fall apart. Better to do it now before the medical issues start to appear. I have lost 89 pounds (a few in the couple of months waiting for the surgery) and have never felt better.... do it now, don't second guess yourself, you will be happy you did it.

    Paleo Anyone?

I like the idea of Paleo, but have some issues with how some people perceive the diet. For example, cavemen didn't drink milk, but once people started keeping cows, some gradually evolved the ability to continue making lactase into adulthood.. and when food was scarce, those that could subsist on milk didn't starve, so they continued on to pass on those genes. I am a fortunate recipient of those genes, so since I can digest milk, why wouldn't I drink it? Trust me, if cavemen COULD drink milk.. they would have too! Lol. Cavemen had access to a wider variety of foods than we have today. Modern agriculture has narrowed our foodstuffs so far, that we now primarily subsist off of maybe 100 items (and only about 10- 20 of them make up the bulk of our diets).. that the idea of narrowing what we eat even further.. seems like a really bad idea. Having said that, processed, chemical laden foods have no place at my table either. I'll do Paleo+ (I also want my legumes, potatoes, and dairy).

    Amazed at being qualified

As a rule, no. The lower the BMI, the slower the weight loss. Don't let that discourage you. Slow and steady wins the race.

    Amazed at being qualified

I am 5'4 and was 209 the day I met with my surgeon for the first time back in March. I have severe Obstructive sleep Apnea, and that is what qualified me with a BMI of 35.9. I just got insurance approval for surgery, hoping to schedule the first week of December.
