I was on this forum quite a while ago asking for help with insurance issues, etc. For 3 years, my insurance denied me, even though I appealed with a ton of paperwork from several doctors and made numerous phone calls, wrote letters and on and on. My place of employment finally switched to a different insurance company in 2017 and I had my first visit with the surgeon the beginning of February. I had already been to other doctors, been to nutritionists, taken weight loss meds, and done so many programs, so I had already met many of the pre-requisites. After jumping through some more hoops, having some tests done, seeing another nutritionist, I was finally approved for surgery and it is now set for July 25th! I am so very happy to start my journey, my only regret is that it took so long to get here. But, I'm here now and wanted to share my good news! I'm a little nervous about it as I've not had many surgeries in my life, but I know Ill get through this and my life is going to change for the better in so many ways!

    popcorn when?

Ask your Bariatric team. They are the ones that have the correct answer for YOUR situation. I was 3 months out before I had any.

Should I force myself to eat more?

My NUT said she wanted me at 1000 calories by 6 months, that extended time under 1000 calories is not good long term. She said that I should work up to 1200-1400 calories by 1 year out.

Not sure how much your tummy can hold, but the trick with keto, and other low-carb diets is to actually limit your meat/protein to 3oz, 3 times a day, and fill up the rest of the time on green veggies (add some nuts or cheese to round out your protein goal}. Test it out to see how much green stuff you can eat after eating 3oz of protein. If only a bite or two, then eat your protein and veggies separately. 3 oz of raw spinach and 3 oz cooked spinach look very different in the bowl.. see which one you can eat more of... I mention spinach, specifically, because I'll eat about 4oz cooked, and stuff is like a laxitive for me. (I do add a teaspoon of oive oil and a splash of vinegar and some spices for flavor). Green veggies need a little fat to help you absorb the fat-soluble vitamins.

    Is something wrong with me?

Joann455 I just passed my 3 month anniversary of my surgery. Since starting the preop diet I have lost 56 lbs. I still feel quite a bit of restriction and can only take in about 3 ounces of meat before approaching feeling full.
