I was on this forum quite a while ago asking for help with insurance issues, etc. For 3 years, my insurance denied me, even though I appealed with a ton of paperwork from several doctors and made numerous phone calls, wrote letters and on and on. My place of employment finally switched to a different insurance company in 2017 and I had my first visit with the surgeon the beginning of February. I had already been to other doctors, been to nutritionists, taken weight loss meds, and done so many programs, so I had already met many of the pre-requisites. After jumping through some more hoops, having some tests done, seeing another nutritionist, I was finally approved for surgery and it is now set for July 25th! I am so very happy to start my journey, my only regret is that it took so long to get here. But, I'm here now and wanted to share my good news! I'm a little nervous about it as I've not had many surgeries in my life, but I know Ill get through this and my life is going to change for the better in so many ways!

Not sure how much your tummy can hold, but the trick with keto, and other low-carb diets is to actually limit your meat/protein to 3oz, 3 times a day, and fill up the rest of the time on green veggies (add some nuts or cheese to round out your protein goal}. Test it out to see how much green stuff you can eat after eating 3oz of protein. If only a bite or two, then eat your protein and veggies separately. 3 oz of raw spinach and 3 oz cooked spinach look very different in the bowl.. see which one you can eat more of... I mention spinach, specifically, because I'll eat about 4oz cooked, and stuff is like a laxitive for me. (I do add a teaspoon of oive oil and a splash of vinegar and some spices for flavor). Green veggies need a little fat to help you absorb the fat-soluble vitamins.

    Am I crazy here?

You are not losing your mind at all, it is perfectly normal. Don't try and "break the stall" as it is precisely what your body should be doing at this stage. "Only" losing 40lbs in a month is an incredible amount of weight in that time period. The industry average according to my surgeon is 25 lbs. Fat is not being "redistributed", your body is just using reserves to complete the healing process. Adaptation cannot happen at the same time as the loss. You have the about a year of the drastic weight loss ahead of you, don't worry. As long as you follow the plan and do not fall back into what was considered "normal" habits before, the scale will continue to go down and then maintain. Since you are still so fresh from surgery, I would heartily recommend you take measurements of your chest, waist, hips, thighs, and arms. That is the one set of metrics I did not track and I really wish I had done so.
