    one year surgiversary

Hi, I just passed my one year surgiversary and I wanted to offer up my thoughts on what this passed year has brought. My day of surgery weight was 285. My current weight is 138.5. I have read a lot of the forums and was surprised to see how many folks had regrets. I can honestly say I have none even though I had to have another surgery to fix an internal hernia and remove lesions. I feel blessed that I was given this tool, yes, it is only a tool. It is not a magical procedure that miraculously makes you thin and fixes all the problems in your life. Your struggle with obesity still continues long after surgery. The hard work really begins once you resume eating every day foods. I have not had soda (including diet), cakes, cookies, bread, pasta, potatoes, chips, any type of junk food, processed meats, etc since a month prior to my June 2016 surgery. Do I miss it? Not really as the trade off is much sweeter than any cookie. Instead of indulging in food, I can indulge in a smaller sized wardrobe. I do cook for my family and bake. I have become a master at washing my hands off as soon as I get icing, or cake batter or cookie dough on my fingers. I don't take tastes of these things either. I know it is a very slippery slope and these types of food are triggers to bad behavior for me. I struggle with the same bad habits that I had when I was heavier. These habits do not disappear with the rerouting of your internal plumbing. You have to look within yourself and decide what you want the outcome of this surgery to be. I wanted to be healthier and feel better about myself. I know that being happier about myself would spill over to family and friends. I am more confident about myself which has benefited me at work. If you are contemplating the surgery, go for it! If you are regretting the surgery, don't! Look at it as a gift that will keep on giving as you become healthier, more confident and ready to take on the world. This is a once in life time opportunity. Thank you.

    Surgery done June 21st.

Not at all what I expected, little discomfort but nothing I can't handle. I really wish I would of done it a long time ago. Sent from my N9519 using BariatricPal mobile app

I had gastric bypass May 8th, 2017 I was 256 and today I'm 208 I feel I lost a little bit of weight. This is what I eat because I can't eat meat even if it's puree. Morning: Premier protein shake Afternoon: fat free Greek yogurt ( black cherry, strawberry, blue berries Around 4pm I buy a large mango smoothie from Dunkin donuts. IT will take me about 3 - 4 hrs to finish it. And I also eat 2-4 bags of nacho cheese sunflower seeds. The past week I drink water and crystal light. What can I do to eat better and lose weight? The reason I got this surgery is because I have intracranial hypertension...severe headaches. So they say losing weight and getting some injections on my forehead I should feel better. I'm getting desperate Sent from my SM-G928T using BariatricPal mobile app

    Water intake!

I had the sleeve done 4 days ago and surprisingly I can go all day sipping water and my stomach agrees just fine. But I'm still constantly thirsty!! It's not just like a lil thirst it's like a "been walking in the desert for 24 hours and haven't found any water yet" thirst. Does anyone know what I can do?

    1 Week to Go

I have my surgery in four days, and I'm just as nervous as you are. I've never had any major surgery before. The closest has been getting my wisdom teeth pulled out! Hope everything goes well! I'd love to hear from you after and see how it went.

Yes it occured to me that this might be what it was. Next time it happens I'll try what you suggested. For now I'm stopping taking any pills other than my anti-acid one until I can talk to my surgeon. I'm feeling a bit better than yesterday but only after trying to take another pill and throwing up again. On the plus side I somehow lost 6 pounds yesterday! (Wow, how is this even possible?) Thanks for your input.

On the daily I do about 10,000+ steps. Today I was off and decided to double that by taking a hike on the trail. Commit to your change and you will forever be successful [emoji173]️

    So Cal Sleevers

So it looks like the last post on this thread was in 2012, but I thought I would try to restart this group because I'm from this area. I'm having my sleeve done in August at St. Bernadine's in San Bernardino with Dr. Fedorka as my surgeon. I'm going through Kaiser. Anyone else currently from this area going to get sleeved soon?
