    I need a buddy/mentor DFW area

Thank you for the words of encouragement. I'll be starting my liquid diet this Thursday. I'm praying that I make it through. I have no choice but to make it through. Thanks again and best wishes to you.

    Another Stall Thread

My NUT told me that some people (mostly women) lose weight as if they are stepping down stairs (lose and then stay the same for a bit, then lose and then stay the same for a bit). Others lose like walking down a ramp (basically lose the same amount on average every week). For some reason this picture made perfect sense to me and has stuck in my head. I am for sure a stair stepper and it drives me nuts but I keep telling myself that it doesn't matter if you are stepping down stairs or walking down a ramp you'll eventually get to the bottom So it may not be a true stall but maybe just the flat part of the step. Hang in there!!

    Sadness in waves

The past is behind you, but let's learn from it, so you can keep moving forward. Did it make you feel happier to stay home, or less happy? There is no right or wrong answer here. For some people, the stress and anxiety of going out would have made them much happier to stay home. Others would be sad about "missing out". Once you wrap your head around what makes YOU tick, you'll be able to figure out how to BE happier. For me, going out to eat is about the conversation and fellowship, not about what is going into peoples' mouths. For others it IS all about the food. We are all different, and sometimes we don't know what will make us happy or uncomfortable until we are in that situation. So.. like I said. Use this as a learning experience to help you learn how to make you happy

    Wondering something

You're 5'2, correct? If so, you have nothing to worry about unless you drop below 192 (with a comorbid health condition) or below 219 lbs without any comorbidities. At 5'2, 192 lbs would represent a BMI of 35, while 219 would place you at a 40 BMI. As a reference, I am 5'1. I qualified for the sleeve through my insurance at 199.7 pounds (37 BMI) and a comorbid condition of elevated cholesterol. On the day I had surgery, I weighed 218 pounds with a BMI of 41. Yes, I had gained weight due to my inability to control my compulsive eating patterns. Good luck to you!

    BMI Too High--Help!

I agree with the optifast diet recommendation. The goal here is to shave those pounds off, not to worry about the lifelong healthy eating plan. There is time to work on that plan later. My husband is also living with debilitating back pain. But diet is MUCH more important to weight loss than exercise. Metformin helps lose weight, insulin helps gain weight. That explains your experience. Because you are on insulin, it is really important to manage the diet/insulin dosage closely. If you go on Optifast suddenly, without modifying your insulin dosage, you will have low blood sugar attacks. See if you can find someone to help you work into the diet while tapering down the meds. Do you have family or friends that can help you? (Do shopping, be cheerleaders, etc...) You can do this!

    Years later...(9)

I am sorry that you have encountered many problems post-op and I wish you well. In general, the three most important elements after RNY gastric bypass surgery are to meet your daily protein, fluid and vitamin requirements. How are you doing in these areas. A few years after my RNY gastric bypass surgery, I was told that my surgeon tends to make the stomach pouch a little smaller than some. This meant that I had to really adhere to the meal volume requirement. If I exceed this volume, it generally lead to dumping syndrome. My nutricianist recommended that to counteract this, I should eat more small meals per day, perhaps 5. So I was wondering if this might help in your case.

    Aetna!?

I have Aetna and as long as you stay the same weight or loose you'll be fine. You just can't gain weight while on you 6 month program. You should hear something very soon. Aetna approved mine in just a few days.

    Clearance Rack

So the wife and I went to Kohl's last night and I went over to the clearance rack in the men's department. I found a nice jacket on clearance (originally $100.00, on clearance for $20.00) but all they had was large and small. I know the large is too big so I tried on the small. It fit perfectly. All I can say is WOW! I went from an x-Large in October to a small in May. If I get too much more smaller I might have to start shopping in the boys section. LOL
