I hate my scale.... its broken... or I am
lexnique and one other reacted to LittleLizzieLilliput for a post in a topic
I am just reposting this because I don't have enough time to write it again but I want to help. My surgery was 10/10/16, I've had more stalls than active weight loss weeks. Yet here I am in a size 14 about to move to a size 12 (edit, update, this post is originally from about 5-6 weeks ago. I'm now moving from a size 12 to a size 10 but I'm only 6 lbs lighter than when I posted this...to give you an indication of the scale is not the full story). They aren't stalls, I call them Pauses. Nothing's stopped, your body is still working, you have done so much to it, it needs a little time. The first 6-12 weeks are about recovery and healing. You will lose weight but your body is also in shock, it will retain Water, be swollen, sore and need time. But then it will happen again and you won't have a good reason. You will be following all the protocols and you will be walking and drinking your water and hitting your Protein goals and yet you will hit another Pause. You need to be mentally prepared for that. It's not all a down slope. So to prepare you need to do a few things: Measure yourself, your head (yes, you lose weight there) your neck - super satisfying to watch it shrink, your biceps, your forearms, your writs, hell - measure your fingers too and your palm, your breast, under your breasts, your waist, your hips, your thighs, etc. All the way to your toes. Then do that about once every few weeks or so. And then when you hit another plateau you pull out that sheet and measure yourself again and see that your body is still changing and evolving. The scale does not tell the whole story. When I get discouraged I like to take a few moments and feel the changes in my body. I run my hands along my feet and ankles, my calves and knees. I feel the bones and muscle revealing themselves. I wrap my fingers around my wrist and feel how much smaller they are now. I run my hands along my forearms on the outside and feel my bones up to my elbow. I run my hands along my collar bones, revel in the fact I have them now! I continue on up my neck, circling it with my hands to feel how small it is now and then along my jaw bone, a bone I haven't seen in decades. I take these moments and remind myself how great this is and how great I'm doing even if I don't believe it in that moment. I move. When I'm discouraged I now move. I used to eat. Now I want to remind myself how much easier it is to move. So I go for a very vigorous walk, I put on the happiest, bounciest, fasted rhythmed music I have and get to steppin! Blast that brain with some oxygen, sun, music and endorphins. There are going to be MANY pauses and stalls and plateaus. It's our job to prepare your coping tools and mechanisms so that you can self-sooth and re-motivate without need for food or a serious mental adjustment. Before I let myself get that far I use these methods. They work for me, you will find what works for you hopefully. Good luck and congratulations!!! -

What can I take??
dtorres0508 reacted to thisisthenewme for a post in a topic
I hope you're going to see your doctor. If tonsillitis you'll need antibiotics. Otherwise you can take Tylenol for the pain. Very warm salt water mouth wash can also help. Tea. Sugar free throat lozenges. If it's just a sore throat you might just have to wait it out. I get a sore throat from post nasal drip. If that's the issue you can get Flonase over the counter now. Hope you feel better soon. -

Questions about gallstones
FamilyGuyNJ reacted to sgc for a post in a topic
my issue was an intense pain above the belly button and bellow the breast bone. I don't think gallstones are something that you can actually feel on the skin. I had a gallstone stuck in my bile duct and I turned yellow from head to toe. -
1 pointI respectfully disagree. 2oz, twice a day is wholey insufficient for 7 months postop. She should be eating at least 4oz at a time, 3-5 times a day. Not necessarily 4oz of solid steak, but at least 4oz of soup and the like (shoot, how about 8oz soup!) Of course, it's hard to tell how much she's eating for those snacks, but the snacks don't have protein, so she isn't meeting that requirement. It is hard to get 60+ grams of protein a day (unless she's drinking protein shakes), and she is in no way getting it. She won't be growing muscles, unless she consumes the protein to fuel their growth. Simple as that. If she complains of being full after 2 oz of something soft, she needs to see her surgeon again to be evaluated for a stricture.

Had VSG to RNY Monday the 12th
backtofitme reacted to SleeveDreamer for a post in a topic
Well this is my journey from Monday the 12th. Went in for hiatial hernia repair and RNY because my acid was totally out of contol. When the anesthesiologist inserted his tube, it was discovered that I had a very thin area of scar tissue that was completely iniulated from my severe acid. So my wonderful surgeon had to repair that first before he could do the bypass. Because of this it wasn't necessart for him to do the hiatial hernia repair. So the bypass part went as planned. Because of this repair, I could not start liquids on Tuesday. I had to have an upper gi xray to make sure there was no leak. There wasn't, but he still wanted to be extra cautious because of the delicate repair. So I was only allowed ice swabs all day Tuesday and was on IV. Yesterday, Wednesday, I was finally allowed ice chips, but still on IV. Today, Thursday, I am still on IV, but was allowed broth. I am not having any problems with the broth, so I may be able to go home tomorrow. I live 50 miles away, so like I said he is being cautious. Originally, I was to start liquids Tuesday through next Monday, adding protein drinks tomorrow. Of course that's when I was supposed to go home today. So now I will be on the clear liquids longer and probably not add protein til mid week. Otherwise, I feel great. I have never had any pain or needed to take pain meds. I am up walking four times a day with no problem. I do have a drain this time too, and that will be until my post op next Thursday. I have never been nauseated. I am just glad I have an excellent surgeon who saved my life agin. If this would have gone unnoticed, it most likely would hav ruptured and I would be in deep doo doo with infection throughout my entire body. I will update tomorrow! Wish I would have gone this route rather than VSG 5 1/2 years ago! -
1 pointYes Premier Protein is a brand. It was recommended by my Dr. It has 30 grams of protein, 160 calories and 1 or 2gm sugar. It fills you up but is only 11 1/2 oz., and you don't have to mix it!!! The chocolate and Carmel are my favorites, but strawberry and banana creme are pretty good. I haven't seen a cookies and creme flavor but I would try it it there was. I just bought vanilla for a variety. I have never tried it. I've made it through 6 days now with no cheating and haven't been hungry. The monotony is the hard part. As of last night I have lost about 8 lbs in 5 days! I'm good with that!! I'm on the down hill slope now!!

I hate my scale.... its broken... or I am
Julie norton reacted to Sullie06 for a post in a topic
Stalls suck to put it bluntly but they are a part of the process and completely normal. I've stalled pretty much every month during this process for 1-2 weeks and I've still managed to lose 63 pounds in 5 months. The weight will come off, just focus on making good habits now and sticking to them. -
1 pointI hope I am only in this infamous stall phase too...... I am 4 weeks out today.from band to bypass revision.... and have lost a total of 1stone 5 1/2 pounds... but of that only 1 pound this week and 1 pound last week... I have a shake for breakfast.... a small low cal high protein lunch and dinner... around 60___80 protein... not quite making my fluid target... but very disappointed the last two weeks..... recovery wise I feel fine...

Thank you. I didn't end up eating the cheesecake. Lol. Got mad at my husband because he didn't eat it right away and the temptation was there. I am a baker and I love to bake it's a stress reliever for me. I love to be in the kitchen. It's somethjng I and my extended family and coworkers enjoy too. Lol. I will get this most things I can pass up and I do and will continue to. You guys are all right. I just needed to hear from some of the vets. I am new at this maintenance thing and it's going to take me a while to get it.
