I finally made it under 200!! It's been 10 years since I've seen a 1 in the front of my weight. Never thought I would be there again. So thankful I decided to go through the surgery. My HW was 247.4 I lost 10 before surgery which was on 1/31/17. So I am currently down a total of 48lbs!!

Yes, the tubular sleeved stomach can stretch. Yes, the stomach pouch of a gastric bypass patient can stretch. Stomachs are made up of smooth muscle, which is capable of stretching. My sleeve definitely has a greater capacity than it did during those first few post-op months. Plainly speaking, my sleeve can accommodate more food now. However, anyone who expects tight stomach restriction by itself to prevent overeating may be engaging in unrealistic thinking. At this point, the quality of food I place into my mouth is more important than the size of my sleeve. A person with a thumb-sized sleeve or golf ball-sized bypass pouch can and will regain all his/her weight if too many slider foods (e.g., chips, cookies, crackers, pretzels, ice cream, popcorn, donuts, mashed potatoes) are eaten. Slider foods do not produce a feeling of fullness or satiety. Therefore, a person who is determined to eat around the pouch or sleeve can accomplish his/her mission by overeating sliders. My personal saying is, "The road to weight regain is paved with Lays, Doritos, Ruffles, Ben & Jerry's, Fritos, Oreos, Breyers, and Chips Ahoy." It is all about choices.

    After surgery

HI, I had my sleeve on April 6 and I can relate. I also had 2 C sections and a total knee replacement and thought this would be very easy as far as recovery. Everyone spoke about barely any recovery time and I was disappointed in myself when I felt miserable for the first few days, not even gas related but as you're saying incisional pain. I had 2 areas on my right side that were painful, I couldn't find a comfortable position. My back hurt, I had a headache and yes I also took my Percocet. Even though I did my breathing exercises it hurt to breathe and I felt short of breath when I walked. Anyway the good news is I was sleeved on a Thursday and by Tuesday I felt significantly better and by the one week mark completely back at my norm. So as a fellow RN I am writing to encourage you with my story and let you know you are about to turn the corner. Ive lost 26 lbs and am tolerating a pureed/soft diet and feeling great. Just give it another day or two. If you need someone to talk to Im here and I would love to see how you progress in the next week or so. Deb

    Almost gave up

My surgery was in Monday 4.17.17. I am currently home recovering. So yeah I went through with it even though as they rolled me into the operating table I was a nervous wreck. But now I think I made the right choice for my health.

    4 month transformation!!!!

I'm officially down 60 pounds. Today is my 4 month sleeve anniversary. I can't believe i did it. 35 more until i hit my goal. I found out on this journey that i really love weight lifting and boxing. I also found out that healthy eating isn't as bad as i thought it would be. I'm loving my new lifestyle. I don't know why i didn't do this sooner.

    Endoscopy Biopsy

My gastro did an endoscopy on me on Friday. All went well but he did mention he took a few biopsies.... um, of what?? [emoji17] he said he would send the paper work over for surgery and all and also would call me if something "comes back" on the biopsies. Is this normal? Did I have something going on? I was still out of it from the anesthesia to question him. Im not freaking out or anything but it's itching me.

    Any Regrets?

I was really happy with my experience. I only told few people before I went because one of the people I did tell had me so scared after I spoke to her! She had seen some Dateline program from 15 years ago about Mexico surgeries and had to tell me about it. I knew I had done plenty of research and talked to a lot of people on Facebook who had gone and they assured me it was going to be fine! It was. Minus having to get used to the "relaxed" concept of time down there-once I accepted that, things were great! My surgery was 3/27 and now that im home and doing really well, I tell everbody! *side note- I work a physically demanding job and do wish I had taken 3 weeks off. My first week back to work was exhausting.

Definitely speak with a nutritionist. You're over a year out. Your bodies needs have changed. Best to seek out experts advice. That said....I think you should really be tracking your intake. A year out calorie intake is really important.

Your protein is really low. I've never heard any plan that calls for less than 60 grams per day. (Although there was a poster yesterday who said her doctor gave her a goal of 30 grams per day. I find that suspect, but that's what she said.) I'd recommend that you begin tracking your food and drink. Without doing that, you really have no idea what you are taking in each day. I'd also recommend making an appointment with your nutritionist so that you can work together to determine how many calories and carbs you should be taking in based upon your current body state. (You didn't give any specifics here, so it is hard to give any advice around calories, etc.) I'd also up your water by 0.5 L or so. Hopefully, these suggestions will be helpful. Good luck!
