As far as a shake alternative, have you tried an unflavored protein powder? I have used Unjury and Isopure, and they are really a great alternative to shakes, because you can mix them into drinks and/or foods such as yogurt, cottage cheese, etc.
The powder mixes well into Crystal Light, Powerade Zero, or, my favorite, decaf iced tea. I like the fact that it will help me get my protein up to 90-100 grams a day, which has been the magic number for me dropping the weight over the last few weeks.
You might want to give it a try.
