    5 days post op

5 days post op and going to a party tonight. Of course it's a pot luck party and everyone brings a dish. I have my bottle of crystal light ready. I haven't told any of my friends about this surgery and I don't think I am ready to tell them yet. Is it wrong just to say I am in a diet? Does that make me a bad person for omitting the big truth??

    Day 6 Hungry

Every one feels hungry when they can't chew. Once you can chew food it will be less. Scientifically you should not have any physical hunger at this point mainly from swelling and nerves being cut. It should basically be impossible to be physically hungry. The person hungry at 5 weeks are you on a PPI? You can still feel hungry on an antacid. Only a PPI is going to stop you from feelings hungry because of acid.

    WTH! Hungry?!

Wanted to update everyone that at my one week followup the NP told me those feelings in my stomach are what she calls "empty stomach syndrome". She said when the stomach is empty it makes acid and gas and because we are on liquids everything is sliding right through. Also said taking omeprazole at night before bed will help because lying down will give it more time to sit and coat the stomach and protect it from the acids and help heal (the whole point of taking it for us sleevers).

    Day 6 Hungry

Yes! I'm going to define my hungry then and now. About two weeks after surgery I felt hungry all the time like Christina describes. Cooking, seeing people eat made me feel hungry. Knowing that I just had 80% of my stomach removed which included severing nerves to my stomach and removing most of my grelin hormone didn't change my hunger feeling. Genuine hunger is the body craving nutrition not the head craving something that tastes good. Because of my new physiology I know it isn't empty stomach hunger because my small tummy doesn't know it's empty. Now my first step to hunger is to add real, good nutrition. If I'm still hungry I'm sure it's my head and I clean something in my house or go for a walk Good luck

    Still in hospital

Been in the hospital since surgery Thursday. Can't get enough liquids in for me to leave. It hurts like hell. Surgery wasn't that bad, not much gas until I start to drink and I've been walking a lot. Hoping to go home today but we'll see

    Terrified of gaining

So i'm officially 100 pounds down, but still have a ways to go. This is the most confident i've ever been in my life and i feel absolutely amazing. Recently, however, as i've been healing and able to eat more and test out new foods, i find myself absolutely overwhelmed and terrified of gaining even a single pound back. i stick to my diet and exercise everyday, but occasionally (and i mean rarely) slip up and eat something i shouldn't or skip a workout. Gaining weight now consumes my every thought. I may sound like a cry baby but i just don't know what to do! It is so overwhelming and sends me to panic mode. I know i'm not perfect, but i'm trying my very best to be. Any advice or words of encouragement?? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    Excited and nervous

That is so exciting! I can imagine and understand that you are nervous and unsure.. but honestly having your current loose skin removed will help SO much in your day to day life. I would say it's totally worth it to go ahead and do this now and once at goal to do the revision later! Not having the painful loose skin will make it easier for you to exercise and get around which will help you get to goal.. so I say go for it! No matter what you decide or what happens, I know you can do this and it is so awesome how far you have come in your journey so far! Congrats girlie

    Constpation

I use Milk of Magnesia anytime I have not gone to the bathroom by the third day. It works fast and effectively (usually within 2 hours).

    Taking a bath

They make waterproof bandages if you are really worried about them getting wet. Enjoy! I know i loved my first hot soaking bath after surgery.

    Terrified of gaining

First of all - Congratulations on the weight loss - to all of you. I know how hard you've been working and what determination you have. I also know really really well the fear you are facing. I was in the same place 12 years ago. My surgery was 13 years ago this month. I lost 170 lbs and have managed to keep it off - Yeah! I was really afraid of re-gain those first couple of years - especially as my appetite came back. I've roller coastered a bit at times but have managed to stay within about a 15 lb range. Don't let the fear stress you out because that can act as a push into old eating habits. Here's a few things I did to help me stay stable. I changed my eating habits drastically in that first year while I could. I cut out all sugar, went low on the grains, stopped all fast food with the rare exception, and went organic. It was easy to do that in the beginning when I was v. motivated because I kept thinking long term. I set up good solid exercise routines - doing things I liked like biking, dancing, swimming and walking. I continued to do those things because I liked them. I didn't get on the treadmill or exercise bike because I didn't like them and knew I wouldn't keep it up. I also set up and have continued to do a simple weight training routine. I got help when I needed it - used the professionals in my program but also went outside for psychotherapy and life coaching. Lastly I worked hard at not freaking out when I did gain a pound or 2 or even 10! I'd just do an inventory of where I was getting slack - esp. with the rules of the pouch - and trusted myself to get back on track, even if it took me a few days or even a week. I didn't freak out, go into despair and start that downward spiral of beat myself up, eat more, beat myself up more, eat more, etc. This is all simply put here but I put in a lot of work and time and continued vigilance yet learning to let go and enjoy life up to this day. I know I'll never gain back that weight. Good luck to all of you. The fact that you are concerned and looking long term is a great sign that you'll make it!
